Mommy and Me Class

The fitness center I work at is considering starting a mommy-and-me class. I may be the one to teach it, if they decide to start one. So, my question is: What Mommy-and-Me classes have you taken and LOVED or... What have you taken and not enjoyed? Why? I'd really prefer that it wasn't a swimming class since the public pool is known to have those in the summer... Maybe pilates/yoga/whatever else you can think of that is a bit more unique. Though, if a swimming one is something you loved, I would like to hear that as well... We really want to help out the mommies in the area since, like most moms, they really enjoy activities with their kiddos. Any ideas/suggestions are wonderful since this is a new idea for the center. Thank you, thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion to add ages! I had thought about that also... I'd really like to aim the classes at the toddler/preschool age. I think SO much is done with infants and babies and I would love if there were more 2-years and older classes... Maybe like 2 years to 6 years. What do you think?

What can I do next?

My favorite class when my son was younger was one that combined music and arts and crafts. It had some circle time with songs and simple instruments like drums and tambourines. Then there would be a craft project, such as using toy cars to paint a picture.

I have done a mommy and me yoga and pilates dvd (not a class) and really liked them both. A dance type one might be fun as well.

If you could let us know the age range for the babies or children that would be helpful! Classes can be VERY different for a mommy and me with infants, with young toddlers, or with preschool age. I'll look back later to give suggestions. Thanks!

For that age, I think an art class would be great, but I don't know how that would work into a fitness center. A better choice would probably be a dance class covering different types of dace: jazz, ballet, animal movements, hip hop, etc. Yoga is also a good option as well as gymnastics, which can be combined. Even an aerobics class could be fun at this age!

I would have loved to do a mommy and me fitness class of some type, whether stroller-fitness, or an indoor type one where you use the baby as "a weight" to lift and all....or where you and the toddler/preschooler do the exercises together, that would be cool! Nothing like that around here.

I think our YMCA offers a mommy and me swimming and a mommy and me tumbling type one too.
