My children also get nose bleeds in the winter. It is likely due to dry air. Put some vaseline on a qtip and insert carefully (not to much). It will help moisten the nasal passages. Works great for us.
lately my 3 year old has had several noise bleeds. It just starts suddenly and I have been applying a cold cloth with pressure to stop it. First time it was just one side of his noise then with the second bleed with was the other nostril. My sister said that maybe it could be due to dry air in the house?
I have no idea why but the last time he had a noise bleed it was sort of heavy. My husband said he had noise bleeds as a child.
Anyone have any experience with this? I'm a little concerned about him.

Hi B., That sounds a bit unsettling! A couple of questions if I may...Has your son had any sinus infections and did they lead to rounds of antibiotics or nose aprays? Does your son get vitamins on a regular basis?
There are some vitamins that can be associated with slowing nosebleeds. I would be glad to share my experience...email me if you want more information, ok?
warmly, M.
If you are Really concerned you should call his Dr and at least talk with a nurse. It is probably caused by the dry air. Try using humidifiers and nasal saline spray.

My 8 y/o son has had this problem for years (& still has nose bleeds for not reason). A doctor that my son had (before we moved) said that her son had the same problem. The nose bleeds didn't have any rhyme or reason to why they started & that my son will grow out of it. As your sister said: it could be dry air. A humidifier & daily saline nose drops may help.
Make sure that he isn't sticking his fingers in his nose (his nose could be itchy).
You don't need to use a cold compress, just pinch his nose with a tissue & hold it for 5 minutes (before checking it). If it is still bleeding after 5 minutes call a doctor. I'm sure it could be hereditary too.
God bless!
First off I think you mean NOSE Bleeds not noise. I have tons of experience with this. We had to call emergency once to ask the proper way to stop a nose bleed. Sit child upright at a table, place a bowl under his nose, then apply pressure to the bridge of the nose with your finger and thumb like you're pinching his nose but not at the end but half way between end and his eyes till it stops. Could take as long as 5 minutes. Yes dry air, fumes, air conditioning, any sudden temperature changes, of course him picking it, etc. can cause nose bleeds. However we did take him to an ear/nose/throat specialist and they had to cauterize some of the blood vessels up in his nose. It didn't take long and he didn't have to be put under anesthetic. It was well worth it. If you have good insurance, it will pay for the cauterization. He definitely needs to be checked if they are persistant. C. from Kalamazoo
This just recently started with my 7 year old son. Started when he was sick with a flu virus and I attributed it to the dry air, nasal congestion and our first use of ibuprofen which has some blood thinning properties. I would agree that it is likely related to dry air/nasal congestion. One thing to remember is (which is what people used to do) do not have him lean back. Have him lean slightly forward while holding pressure. If it doesn't stop in 5-10 minutes, you definitely should consult your pediatrician's office.
My son got nose bleeds for a while and they got worst with time. We eventually had to get his nose cartherized by way of surgery. Go see a ENT doctor, they can tell you how close the blood vessels are to the surface. Closer they are the more nose bleeds. It solved the problem for my son, after the surgery we had two break through nose bleeds but he was doing too much because he was missing gymnastics and starting doing stuff in the house he should have been doing. It's been almost a year now and nothing so I consider it a success. Good Luck!
My husband has this same problem when it gets dry out. A humidifier fixes the problem. He says he's had the bleeds his entire life whenever it gets really dry outside. I suggest running a humidifier in his room every night while it's dry out. It also might not hurt to mention it to his pediatrician just to be certain that it's nothing more.
I have this problem and so does my 6 year old. We have 3 humidifiers spaced throughout our house to help with the dryness, but we still get the nose bleeds on occasion. We also use Ocean Mist moisturizing nasal spray. It's cheap and you can find it at most drug stores, target, etc.
