Hello All, my daughter has been suffering with a very bad case of Atomic eczema since she was 2 years old, she also has allergies. She's now 7 years old and her skin looks as if she's been a bruised. She scratches her skin until it bleeds. I tried putting socks on her hands and even filing her nails but that does not work. She's tried almost every drug that a physician can offer someone her age. Does anyone know of any medical or non medical remedies that may help?

My Mom was born with Exzema and has extremely sensitive skin and also has suffered from psoriasis for years. She had tried every medication, every treatment, shots, you name it. The thing that helped was visiting my families' home out on the LI Sound. The salt water made it go away completely! To the point where we travel out there several times a year and bring back bottles full of the water and she douses herself with it regularly. Saline helps too, but doesnt have the same healing properties. It may sound crazy and kinda simplistic, but I know when you are desperate for a solution, sometimes the simplist are best! Best of luck!

Drugs and medicines will only help alleviate the symptoms of eczema. If you don't find and eliminate the root cause it will continue to come back. The first thing is to make sure you have eliminated all your daughter's known allergens from her diet and environment. Take time and go through all of your food, vitamins, cosmetics, body care products, cleaning detergents and laundry detergents double checking for allergens--make sure you look for hidden things (ie if she's allergic to dairy, casein, whey etc are also dairy derivatives.) Be really vigilant about not allowing any of her known allergens into her environment for a few weeks, if her symptoms start getting better then continue your vigilance and talk to your daughter about how her skin is improving because of this. If her eczema shows no improvement start looking for other possible reactants in her environment--they could be almost anything and it may take a lot of effort, but once you know what to look for you and your daughter will be able to make decisions about whether a flair up is worth having whatever you've had to eliminate to get rid of/control the eczema.

My daughter's Eczema totally cleared up when all of her allergens (soy and dairy) were totally eliminated from the house, but if she gets contaminated by either food or airborne soy she'll get patches of eczema. If she continues to be exposed then it keeps getting worse. We've been dealing with a flair recently caused by the (soy) ink in the fliers delivered here :(

One of the children living with me has eczema too. What works best on her skin is raw shea butter, jojoba oil, olive oil, and/or almond oil. We have tried making combinations of these oils, occassionally adding some essential oil extracts for scents. She seems to do better with the oils and butter alone. We have also found that aloe vera gel soothes her skin before using these natural moisturizers.

I use these too on my skin. They make the skin smooth, shiny and healthy.

You can find these products at a health food store. The best thing is a little goes a long way.

Hopefully this will help your little one.

Hi,
You have probably tried it, but it is best to avoid all meat and dairy while battling excema. After eliminating them, see if condition is still bad. Genetically modiifed foods which contain amino acid chains similar to those of common allergens should be avoided, especially genetically modified soy products. Be careful with any processed foods amd sugars. Trying a strict elimination diet of soy and wheat / gluten would help identify the problem as well. Best luck. Dear Mom,

All you need is some mango, vaseline, and a blender
to make a home made paste. Apply fresh mixture to affected areas. ($2-$3 dollars?)

http://www.ayushveda.com/homeremedies/eczema.htm

Another thing you can try is taking your daughter for tanning, Ultra violet light helps.A membership for unlimited visits can cost around $65 dollars a month
Some medical facilities have these machines for photo therapy, and it would be covered by your insurance however you some times have to travel, and it depends on your copay. Its probably cheaper and more convienient to use a salon.
BUT if you have a PLANET fitness You can get a BLACK CARD membership, which costs $20 dollars per month and includes use of the tanning beds, and you are allowed to bring a guest with you EVERYDAY.( check to see if this includes children)

Also Have her skin biopsied to confirm that it is actually dermatitis. It could be something else such as a allergy.
This should be covered by your insurance company
So $20 copay

Have her tested for food allergies, many times food allergies can trigger the eczema. this should be covered by the insurance company So Max $20 dollar copay

Make sure she is using 400 thread count sheets or higher.
My husband has horrible allergies to dustmites.
I wash his sheets atleast 1 times per week , of not we have an outbreak.these will cost MAX $30 dollars

Have her take immuno support vitamins available at Walmart
for like $3 dollars per bottle.

another suggestion is a change in your daughters diet.
Try and stay away from preservatives, dyes and those things, try to eat organic foods,

Make sure your not using harsh soaps to wash her clothes in. Or the bathtub Or bleach.

Make sure that her clothes are soft cottons. Not lycra, rayon, or polyester.

Avoid environmental factors that trigger allergies (for example, pollen, mold, dust mites, and animal dander)

This is easier said than done. but 2 things you can buy are
a DEHUMIDIFIER ($100) best investment every for people with allergies. Especially seasonal. And a Hypoallergenic vaccum cleaner with HEPA filters.which can be washed and changed frequently.($75-$100 dollars)

Obviously Animal dander is caused from any pets you might have in your home.( if you absolutely can't get rid of the animal, then bathe it frequently 2x per week. and brush it daily outside the home.) My sister actually vaccumed her cats afterwards. ( yes its crazy but it works for her.)

Bathe her every evening, before bed.
going to sleep unbathed can case her to have reactions,
and contaminate her bedding.
Use nutrogena shampoo for dandruff.
( it stinks but actually helps.)
Your washing away any build up that might occur during the day. you don't need to use soap on her body , just let her sit in the warm water till she is pruney. Put baby oil in the water, and DO NOT rub cream on her body.
That can actually irritate her skin more.
Aswell as contaminate her bedding.

Well sorry I've written so much but this is all I know about Eczema, and I hope it helps your daughter.

Good luck

M

My son had eczema to the point of itching himself until he was bleeding. Nothing helped - over the counter, prescription, Melaleuca, etc. A friend introduced me to Arbonne's Baby Care line and it is the only thing I use. My boys are almost 9, almost 6, and almost 2 now. They ALL use the Baby Care Line. I just ran into a friend yesterday who asked me to order some sunscreen for her because if she uses anything else on her kids she has to immediately start them on a steroid prescription.

You can email me if you'd like me to help you get some. You don't have to sign up for anything though you do save 20% by doing so with no monthly requirements. Again, it is NOT a requirement though.

My child is 2 amd has this as well. Go to a dermotolgist and get Lipikar cream and Venus perscription, it worked wonders for my child. I still use the cream today, but no more on her face. I am in Saratoga NY. But, I am sure you can get the cream on line, it is $25 but so worth it. We have triede everything, until we saw the specailist and then it went away in about 2 weeks. I hope this helps, good luck.

M. - I'm not just saying this because I am an Arbonne consultant, but our Baby Line has worked wonders for eczema. In fact, we have several pediatrician's offices that carry it specifically for this reason. I'd be happy to send you a free bottle of our lotion so you can see for yourself - I have friends who rave about it too. I have an 11-month-old myself but fortunately have not had this problem with him. I hope we can get you some help! Please email me your mailing address at: ____@____.com (my website is: amyn.myarbonne.com) and I'll pop this in the mail for you. (There is no obligation on your part to purchase in future...but I think this will help.) A.

Dear M.,
your poor daughter! It must be so hard for her, I feel with you both. I agree with what the other poster said about allergens in her body, but in addition to what she said I would go to Whole Foods and buy a strong probiotic. The bodies first line of defense is the gut and if the gut is not healthy it will let all these allergens leak into the body. Give her the probiotics every day from now on, this is not a quick fix. If this works you could also consider adding enzymes in the mix. Both probiotics and enzymes are something that should be in her body anyway, but most likely not at sufficient levels. So this is something that definitely does no harm.

M.,
Hi, my daughter suffers from eczema too. Especially on her inner elbows. I found an all natural cure - 100% pure emu oil - yes - emu - the bird from australia - it worked lke magic - within a few days the eczema was gone. You can find bottles of emu oil at any natural food or whole foods store. It is pricey - we paid 22 dollars for two ounces, but you use it sparingly. I have also heard that 100% pure virgin coconut oil may do the same thing. Good luck, and I hope it works for you.

I know that this may sound crazy, but I suggest you go to www.yeastadvisor.com. My son would scratch himself bloody also and the doctors wanted to give him steroids and I refused. It turns out he had candida, an often overlooked yeast infection that can cause all kinds of ailments. I started him on the recommended enzymes (and diet changes) and after a month his crazy itching stopped.
