Ok, I need advice from other moms on what's going on with me this month!! A little background first - starting around 1/4 I was feeling off - chills, tired, confusion, plugged ears. I was sent home from work 1/6 due to a fever -- was told to stay home til it was gone so I didn't return until the following Monday. The fever was gone but I've still been tired, some sinus pressure, trouble hearing (plugged ears?) and a little emotional, too. I've also had some dizziness/lightheadedness going on too! I finally went to the Dr yesterday - they took blood and my white count is elevated so they're thinking viral infection (still waiting on results of thyroid & vitamin b deficiency). She says I have alot of fluid in my ears but no infection.
My question is anyone have this type of virus...how long does it last? I am at a loss and exhausted & afraid I'm gonna lose my job cause I'm making mistakes I shouldn't be---how do you tell a temp employer that I've got a virus that's lasted this whole month??
I don't know what to do!!! Any help is really appreciated! I already take a multivitamin and have increased Vitamin C -- get about 8 hrs of sleep a night, too!!

**UPDATE**I have been taking sudafed for sinuses hoping that would help & it's only reduced sinus pressure. I'm still taking it daily to help w/the ear issue.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok, I finally got an answer yesterday - I have some type of mono. The Dr was nice enough to put me on a med for ADHD to try to help with energy & concentration. Fingers crossed that it helps so I can keep working and function like a normal person!! I took my first pill this morning and don't feel different yet but it's a slow release pill so it could take a couple of hours to kick in. Thanks for all the advice....it helped!

I'd be really diligent in working with your doctor. Your symptoms are really common, so it could be so many things.

When my daughter was 7 weeks old, I found a small, swollen lymph node. My OB/GYN wasn't concerned so I went to my Family Physician who thought it was worth checking out. I got a breast ultrasound (since I was postpartum), and the radiologist thought the node looked benign. My white counts were normal, but my C Reactive Proteins were slightly elevated. Really no reason for concern.

I was fatigued and losing weight, but what breast feeding Mom isn't.

So, I won't want to scare you....it's really important for me to say that. But, my diagnosis came back as stage 2A Hodgkins Lymphoma (cancer). I had NO symptoms that would have led anyone to think that other than that 1 swollen node that made my instincts kick into high gear.

Document all your interactions with your physician so you have proof for your employer that you've been proactive in dealing with it. If it is viral, you'll just have to let your body run its course.

If your gut is telling you to keep getting resolution, don't stop listening to it.

I hope you are well soon.
Good luck!

you may have ebstein barr virus or cytomegalvirus did your doc check for that? Make sure you find out what he checked you for. If he can't help you then when you go to someone else you will know what has truly been done. 3000 mg of vit C helps viruses. go slow though because you can get diarrhea from c if its too much for your system. I am in medicine and your would be amazed at what they don't do. You can also have your immune system checked to see what cells specificly are high the you will know better what it is.they have to do a detailed check not the regular blood work. Good luck

At the end of Oct I caught a really bad cold, and felt much as you do now all the way through November. I always have some issues with my ears (ringing, pressure), but it was much worse. And I was exhausted. I went to see a friend who is a homeopath. The remedy she gave me helped right away. So alternative medicine might be something to try, but it can be expensive for an initial consultation (although some offer sliding scale). Hope you start to feel better soon.

It sounds like you have a sinus infection. It could be bacterial or viral. Antibiotics will help if it is bacterial but not if it is viral. Chamomile tea is great for flushing out the body and helping to get rid of viral infections. I use a 10-12 cup drip coffeemaker to make it. Just put the teabags in the pot and let the water drip in and let the tea steep for a few minutes. I use one teabag of chamomile and one teabag of mint tea I find the flavor more appealing. It is best to do this on a weekend because the tea will make you go to the bathroom A LOT. Sometimes you need to drink a whole pot 2-3 days in a row for it to really work but you will feel the infection start to break-up and as you blow your nose it will start to come out. (gross yes but effective) I hope this helps.

I don't know about the other symptoms... but taking sudafed (the kind that is no longer stocked on the shelf- you have to ask the pharmacist, even though no prescription is required) will help dry out/reduce swelling in your ears so that you can hear better. My husband had an ear infection that resulted in a "closed up" ear like that. It was the only remaining symptom he had... but he couldn't do his job without perfect hearing (he's an air traffic controller). I've heard of instances where the "fullness" in the ear can last for many weeks on end. Taking pseudophedrine (sp?) opened up his ears as long as he was using it... his hearing slowly improved day by day until about a week or so... when he no longer needed anything and was back to normal.

Hope this helps!
