This sounds wondeful! I have a 4 mo baby boy and hubby and i are looking for some time away!! We haven't gotten out alone in over 4 months! I live in North Arlington, is that too far?

My daughter is 14 years old and in the 8th grade. She is in the National Junior Honor Society. She does a lot of volunteer work and is involved very much into school ... like sports, drama, karate, NJHS, Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as very involved in Church Youth Group.
Her volunteer work thus far has been sending "Happy Mail" to kids that are very very ill if not termanily ill; writing them letters and sending them small gifts, drawings that she has done, etc., etc. She has also worked for the Metrocrest Service Center helping out in the thrift store. She has also worked in the nursery at Church.
I would like her to get involved with volunteering to take care of children while I'm with her. She plans on being a neo-natal nurse and is hoping to get into a Bio-Med Academy next school year.
So what I'm offering. Free childcare to you at your home for just a few hours. My daughter and I together. All you have to do is sign a document saying she volunteered those hours.
Note she is only available Friday and Saturday nights at this point. Sometimes during the week if sports isn't going on at school.
We live in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch Area and we will drive some but not too far. First come first serve.
Thanks,
A. Lynn

I've got a soft spot in my heart for overacheivers like your daughter and could use some free childcare! I have a unique opportunity in that my five year old son has Down syndrome and when he was born was in NICU for two weeks. A neonatal nurse is a highly skilled field and I commend your daughter for pursuing it! I am currently working on a master's in occupational therapy and I work as a nanny on the side babysitting for parents of kids with disabilities in order to further my experience also, so again, I commend you and your daughter for getting a head start!
I also have a 20month old daughter who is just precious. Both my kids know sign language and use both verbal and sign gestures to communicate. I have a classroom in our place with LOTS of developmental toys and things to play with so she can learn about child development and such. I have LOTS of resources too on Failure to Thrive and babies with disabilities who are born prematurely.. which are some of the things she will probably encounter as a neonatal nurse. My mom is a pediatric nurse and teaches nursing at a local junior college. If you had any questions, I'm sure she'd be a nice networking contact for you.
My mom used to babysit with me when I first got started working with kids when I was 13 and I know I really appreciate her for doing that. I've been told by several employers that they wish they could clone me and I owe it all to my mom's guidance and committment to helping me pursue my passions. So, I commend you for doing the same for your daughter.
I'd also like to suggest another volunteer opportunity she might be interested. Spirit Horse Therapy Riding stables always needs volunteers to work with children with disabilities and at risk youth to ride and care for horses increasing their abilities and confidence. It's a program that's offered free for riders and so of course they are ALWAYS in need of volunteers! It's in Corinth, which is not too bad of a drive.
Oh, my family and I live in Plano and would love to have a sitter on the weekends! Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help her further her education!
Best regards,
R. Wolverton

Wow...sounds like your daughter is very driven and passionate. I commend her for doing what her heart desires. I, myself, am a single mom to a wonderful and loving seven year old boy who loves trains, planes, and cars. My family lives in East Texas, so I don't have a chance to get out much. It would be wonderful to have a night out once in awhile, mainly to attend my church functions, or just have a nite to be with a few of my friends. So if your daughter is interested, I'd love to meet with her and my son. Please email me or call at ###-###-####. Thanks and have a blessed day.

A.,
Thanks for the offer, I live in Allen if that is not too far for you. I have a 4 yr old sweet boy. I am a respiratory therapist and I work in pediatrics, some PICU and occasional NICU, I commend your daughter for what she is doing and her hard work!! NICU is a special place and it takes a special person to be able to work with tiny sick infants, and sometimes its quite sad, but it can be very rewarding too. Let me know if she has any questions.
Hi A., I hesitated a long time to respond. We can afford a babysitter, we just don't do it often. So if there are family's with financial problems, forget about us.
But I noticed most responces were from families with one child. (exept the twin super mamma!).
We have 3 boys. The oldest is almost 5, the second almost 3 and the youngest is 15 months. The oldest is bilingual, the second doesn't talk much and the third uses a couple of words that I only recognize probably.
Me myself have only sisters. And having boys is different. They are (mostly...) well behaved and obidient, but it are boys. So always running, jumping, jelling, pushing... They love story reading, sitting on your lap, they are quiet and good listeners. And they can also play together nicely very concentrated without hitting each other. but somethimes I think: "why, please tell me why are boys always so loud". Do you know what I mean?
So if your daughter wants to have some experience with a more complex family situation than only one child, please contact me.
(I really have 3 lovely boys, don't think after this story they are like wild animals. It's just that I cannot express myself in English very well)
Take care,
I.
A., wow, you sound like you have a great girl on your hands. You must be so proud! We live at Greenville and Royal and could use some time away knowing that our son is in good hands. He's 15 months old and is in bed no later than 7:00 every night, so how would you guys feel about "sitting" for a sleeping child most of the time? If we sound like candidates, please let me know. Thanks!
Hi A.! Are you still looking for volunter sitter opportunties (or were you overwhelmed with responses???)?
I'd love to hear back if you and your daughter are available.
I live in Flower Mound and I'm now a single mother. It's hard to get out while having to always pay a sitter, so I would love a break now and then.
THank you! S.
We would love to get out for a weekend night. We live in Allen hopefully thats not too far. My son is 2 1/2 he is very well behaved around babysitters and just likes to play. Let me know if your interested you can call me at ###-###-####.
I have two little girls-3.5 years and 11 months. We have no family here so we're in desperate need of a babysitter. We would love to have you babysit for us next Saturday night for a few hours if you're available. We live in Flower Mound.
Thanks so much!
A.
We would love to have a little "alone" time and help your daughter at the same time. We both work full time and have a precious 13-month old daughter. We live in N. Arlington, so I'm not sure you want to come that far. If so, call me and we can talk about the details. My number is ###-###-####. Good luck!
If you find someone needy, please help them first. I am fortunate enough to have funds to pay help. However, I have what may be an interesting job. I delivered my second set of twins on July 22. My first set of twins are 3. The newborn twins were premature, but at 3 months are generally pretty healthy. A few hours would mean a few hours of sleep for me; I would not leave the house. Located near Park & Independence. ###-###-#### - S.
WOW you should be VERY proud! My heart goes out to your daughter for wanting to make a difference in life by helping others and what she has done so far.
I as well have volunteering for the terminally ill and it's such a wonderful feeling know that you made such a difference.
I would LOVE for you and your daughter to watch my 17 month old so for a few hours. I rarely ever go out and being a single mom I could definitely use a break.
I live in Carrollton near Josey Lane and George Bush area.
