My 5 year old son has been diagnosed with molluscum he has about 3-4 on his tummy and one just showed up on his legs. The dr said it would go away on its own and that he wouldn't do anything about it but I can see the white seed on each of them. Now if the white seed is the contagious part why not get rid of it? My husband is a type 1 diabetic so we have sterile syringes, can't I just make a little opening and get that seed out then use alcohol swabs, dry it out, tea trea oil and bandage it???????? What has worked for any of you with the same issue? I've heard some creams work for some people and not for others but I don't have money to experiment with this or that. I just want them either contained so no more spread since its gonna be swim season soon or totally gone. Thanks!!!!
From what I understand this virus can last anywhere from 2 months to a couple years. It is pretty rough. I believe that if you try to pop the lesions then you will have scarring. They will go away in time without scarring. The bummer side is that swimming may be out as it spreads pretty easily and you wouldn't want to infect other kids and such.

If you take care of the area you can pop them. I would start by giving your child a really strong probiotic every day and really help his immune system to get rid of the virus. That way the whole body heals.
my kids both had them...they came back after the expensive cream and the removal by the dr. what worked really quickly was apple cider vinegar (just rub some on with a cotton ball a couple of times a day)--and they haven't come back (and it's been years).
Well I was actually diagnosed with molluscum a couple of years ago, so I feel his pain! Don't know how much your doctor told you but they can last for anywhere between 6 months and 3 years. I had mine for about 2.5 years, but they did eventually go away. My dermatalogist also told me to go ahead and pop them! I had to laugh, but his thinking was that yes, popping it could make it spread, but it will also make them go away faster. So, like you said, just make sure you clean the area off afterwards so not to spread anything. It worked for me, and since I didn't actually go the to the derm to be seen for them until about 2 years, I was pretty happy with his advice.
My daughter has these as well, and yes sometime, if she will let us, we try to get the white "core" out. But as Tori said, be carefull, clean the area to make sure they don't spread. and just to warn you our doctor said they would last a "few months", it has been 2 YEARS.... we are so tired of these things, but now they are slowly starting to go away one at a time. Just be thankful they are on his tummy, my poor daughter had them on the neck, for everyone to see.
and p.s. if your doctor recomends putting something called "beetle poison" on them to help get rid of them, don't do it. Our ped-dr did & it burned my daughter skin, she was in a lot of pain, got huge blisters that got infected. and it really never got us anywhere, it still took 2 years for them to start going away. Big mess and I wish we would of never done it. oh and one last thing, our doctor also said they wouldn't scar, but some/not all, but some did. I don't know maybe Forty and Fab, is correct if poping them caused them to scar, but some of hers did.
If you can pop them, I'd say go for it. My daughter had just a few for years, and then all of a sudden, massive outbreak that was only cured by the blister beetle juice, which was not at all fun. We tried apple cider vinegar and various ointments, but didn't have any luck with that.
My son had them and my husband and I both got it too so they are very contagious. The dermatologist first burned them off but I hated how they blistered so then the next go round he extracted them which went much easier for us all. You can do it yourself at home but I think it's just easier to go to the derm and have him extract them instead. Then you know it's done right and they do it so fast, my son barely cried.
My son had this and we had to pick at them with a toothpick dipped in the topical treatment cream. So yes, you can pop them but clean the area well!!! The popping them will irritate them and stimulate the body's on immune response to kick in.
My son had it and now my other 2 kids do. When my first son got it, we saw a dermatologist who applied a wart remover ointment to each one for a period of about 6 sessions and it only made them worse. I ended up using a sterile pin and popping them a few at a time, cleaning them really well and a bandaid. They cleared up but now that he is older, he does have scars from it. It is extremely annoying. My second sons went away on their own and now my daughter has it. I am leaving them be but just tonight, after her bath, a large one on her back seamed to be king of popping out. I used An alcohol swab and quickly removed it as gently as possible. I would leave them alone unless they are popping themseves. This one was really easy to remove and was huge.
If you decide to pop them, just be careful because it could leave scars
