Molluscum...why treat it goes away after a few years! My neighbors kids have all had it and it's gone for the most part...youngest still has a bit at 17mo.
My 2yo has this. We have been going to the dermatologist for months now to have the new ones removed. It isn't painful. The derm. puts on a drop of liquid and the spot blisters just a bit and then goes away. My son never cries or bothers him. The thing is it is $40 every time we go. We have already been 8 times! I noticed about 15 new spots this morning. Is there another way to treat these? I also have a nb. How can I keep her safe from this? From what I understand. it is super contagious.
Next question. My nb(1m) spits up watery substance. She does not drink water besides what is mixed with formula. We have had a time with her tummy. She does not poop everyday. I started giving prune juice(dr orders) she is also very gassy. You can hear her tummy rumble and gurgle constantly. Is this just another symptom of all this? Help me help her! I have done the bicycling of her legs, rubbing tummy, changed formula & bottles. I hate seeing her cry out in pain. I am calling the dr tomorrow & I have been taking her to see him but I guess I want an answer and a fix like yesterday! TIA

The mollescum is very contagious, but fairly harmless. It will eventually go away on its own if left untreated, but it could take months or even years. It will be hard to protect your baby, but they shouldn't bathe together, share bath towels, etc. My older son had it when he was about 4 and my 1 year old ended up getting it in his diaper area. It was annoying, but harmless.
Don't know about the first Q, but you seem to have plenty of advice for that anyway.
As for the second, call me crazy, but would you want to try nursing? You could almost certainly get milk back with a commercial grade pump (you could probably rent at the hospital). My first daughter had insoluble latch problems so I've bottled fed one and nursed another, and breast feeding is SO much easier and more convenient! Also, no reflux, vomiting, constipation, or constant colds with this second one. ;-) Our local La Leche group is GREAT! You can even ask Qs online or call Amanda or Erin for advice. Let me know if you want contact info. They are helpful, welcoming, not judgmental and free!
My 11 yr old GD (have perm legal gaurdianship since 2 mts) had the same thing, we had three different bouts of it, the third time I thought they must be wrong & she had MERSA but, no...she was put on antibiotics & used mupirocin for about a month, THIS time they went away (the second week in we took her to the ER because they were getting soooo close to her vaginal opening) finally, they have gone away & stayed away, 9 months now...ask your ped about a method that would give your child some permanent relief.
Maybe you need to change the NB's formula once more she may have to a special kind, do you warm her formula? if not you should try that, it sounds like she may have some 'reflux' issues.
Best to you, Mama I hope you & the kidz get some much needed relief soon.
Your baby may need prescription formula(usually it's due to a milk and soy allergy or intolerance or may need reflux medication. The pediatrician is the way to go.
Don't let your children bathe together, share towels or any clothes. The less direct contact your nb has with your son the better for preventing it from spreading to her.
My son had it for a year, and we treated it with a prescription cream that cost about $30. I had to buy it 3x, so $90 bucks total for me. The name escapes me at the moment, but I'll look it up if you want - just let me know. It worked well, you just have to be diligent about applying it on the days prescribed - you do it every other night before bed.
I also never let my son wear anything more than once or use the same towel or washcloth more than once. Pain in the butt for doing laundry, but in case the bumps popped, I didn't want it re-infecting him somewhere else. My daughter never got it, so I think keeping them separated at bath time helped.
Don't have any advice for the reflux. Good luck with the molluscum. I feel your pain - it is incredibly frustrating!
About the molluscum - Both my children had it and actually my daughter (3yo) still has it. My son's was treated at the derm b/c he was embarrassed by it. He is 6. We did find that he was also battling exzema (sp?) and when we got that under control his immune system was better able to take care of the molluscum. With my daughter, she was battling infected adenoids that we didn't realize weren't healing even with antibiotics. After an ENT and tubes/adenoid removal, she is doing much better. The ENT told us that her body would be healthier now and she would be able to battle the molluscum better. I asked about ways to boost their immune system and was just told that the basics are sleep, exercise, and eating healthy. THey are only contagious when they pop and the stuff is coming out. Be careful at those times so as not to spread it. I also wouldn't have them share bath water or towels. BTW - my son was in swim lessons at the YMCA - very chlorinated pool - and the chlorine was such a skin irritant that it was actually drying up the molluscum. It kind of did what the derm was doing but for a lot less. Do you live near a public pool you could use ? :>)
