Is it normal for mold to grow in bathrooms? I've always seen mold around the shower doors but I just recently noticed mold on the ceiling of one of my bathrooms. i'm a renter - do i clean it myself? get someone to do it? leave it alone?? thanks!

What can I do next?

I would get the landlord to take care of it. They might need to check inside the ceiling, to make sure black mold hasn't collected in the vents. (and that needs to be fixed by a professional, only...not the property maintenance man) The landlord is responsible for cleaning mold, usually.

Sally:

No, it's NOT normal for mold to grow in bathrooms. Yes, it can grow when it is not well ventilated or the water gets where it is NOT supposed to get.

I would call the land lord and have him come over and check it out.

Mold on the ceiling can mean different things - leak from above - water spray from a shower head gone W.!!

It could be from the bathroom not being well ventilated or it could be a leak in the roof causing mold to form in the attic. If your bathroom is well ventilated, then it's probably coming from the attic and the landlord should take care of it. If your bathroom is not well ventilated, then that's probably the cause. In that case, I would clean it, perhaps paint with Kilz and try to get better ventilation into the bathroom.

the house i grew up in would get mold around the window and the cieling. Bleach water helps clean it. In the winter time we would have to keep things from touching the outer walls or mold would grow.
