Hi mama's!
So my son has been getting his molars (yes that is plural. 3 that I can feel. He's always gotten his teeth in multiple and this is the worst so far) for the past week. This past weekend it got so bad that I had to give my son tylanol, 1 1/2 later teething tablets because the tylanol was NOT working, and then a half an hour after that I gave my son oragel. Normally he DOES NOT like oragel, but this time I let him suck on a 90% empty tube for a second and he loved it. But 30 minutes later when it had worn off, he was back to his screaming and clingyness.
What else can I do? He hates cold items, not a fan of wet wash clothes, doesn't like teething toys anymore. He loves yogurt, but not frozen. I'm at a loss to what I can do. I've googled teething help and what not, and it just keeps coming up with the same stuff.
How much oragel can I give him in a day? Can I try giving one or two more teething tablets? My daycare provider told my dad when he picked up Ollie today that she couldn't handle another day of him crying all day. What can I do?

He is not sick BTW. I had my family friend who is a PA take a look at Ollie (including his ears) while he was here and nothing but teeth. I forgot to ask him what else I could do.

What can I do next?

I used to be a dental assistant and we would advise people these two home remedies to get them thru the weekend until they could see the dentist. They may help your son as well, Clove oil can help numb out the area. An additional home remedy suggestion is to use a wet tea bag for tooth or gum pain. Tea contains astringent tannins, which have the power to shrink swollen tissue and stop bleeding. Take a tea bag and place in water in microwave for 1 min. then once it is just warm & damp, place tea bag on area and hold it there for a few minutes. Hope this helps your son.

I don't know what I was thinking! How are you gonna get a tea bag in your sons mouth at his age! I read this wrong, sorry, I somehow read his wisdom teeth were taken out. Sorry. Please dont put a tea bag in your sons mouth at his age!!! OMG!!! OKay here is what I did, but if you son doesn't like cold things, then this probably wont help. I would take the little bag things you can use to let them eat fruit & such without worry of choking, the little net bags, anyway & i would put an ice cube in there. Mine loved sucking on that & getting all wet. It of course numbs it all out & the hard ice cube with the netting on it seemed to feel good when they bit down on it. So hopefully that helps you. Sorry again for misreading.

I would try the Ibuprofen - unlike Tylenol it is an anti-inflammatory so should help reduce the swollen gum tissue that is causing the pain.

How about sugar free popsicles for your little guy to suck on? They taste yummy and the cold would help numb the gums. I also used to give my son raw, cold carrots to teeth on. I also used to try and distract him - get him engaged in a an activity that literally took his mind off his teeth. He took lots of baths while he was teething as the tub was his favorite place to be.

Shouldn't the Orajel package give recommended dosage? You could also call the Emergency Room at your local hospital and ask what the dosage should be if you need know tonight.

Good luck sweet Mommy!!!!

For some reason (no idea why) my kids did better with ibuprophen when it came to teething. Tylenol helps with many other things, but ibuprophen helped with teething pain. Might be worth a try.

were his ears checked?

& lots of kids love pretzel sticks while they're teething with both molars & cuspids! The pretzel stick goes right to the spot which hurts, & the salt on it helps numb the gum!

I always let my kids teeth on toothbrushes. My daughters favorite is one made of silicone and it's shaped like a banana http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3476181
They can get it right where it needs to be and you get the added benefit of they get clean teeth.
Molars are the worst! Hang in there!
