H.H.
I hated my moby. I tried and tired to get it to work, but its just really a pain in my opinion. For us the Ergo worked best.
Hello again, I asked a question a while back about a baby carrier but didn't ask about the Moby. We have a very fussy 2 week old baby and am looking to get a carrier to try and console her more. Does the Moby work well? Is it a pain to put on? Tips and advice? Thanks so much...
Thanks to all the responses...we went out to Target and got the Moby. I used it at Thanksgiving dinner lastnight and it worked like a charm. I still need to perfect the wrap but we will get it figured out over time. I'm just happy she was content...
I hated my moby. I tried and tired to get it to work, but its just really a pain in my opinion. For us the Ergo worked best.
I absolutely LOVE my Moby, more than my Ergo actually...but my little guy is way to big for the Moby now.
I should say though, I bought it for my first and was horribly intimidated by it. I couldn't figure out how to wrap it in time for the screaming fussy baby. It seemed my first didn't really care for it.
So I spent some time on youtube figuring out how to wrap it for my 2nd. I knew if I was going to nurse him and run around with a 20 mth old. He was going to like it one way or another. At first he wasn't too into it. But by the 3rd day he LOVED it. It actually became an issue for me, in that he wouldn't go to sleep any other way for me. I had to put him down for a nap, by wearing him down. He has since outgrown that, but I never imagined that he would take to it so well..
As far as getting it on, once I got the hang of it, it was no bother to put on at all. I'd say for me its right up their with the Ergo. It was more tedious to take it off, especially when you have a sleeping baby :) But with that said, it was way better to hide your little one from all those people who want to touch and cootify them. And it was a lifesaver for nursing.
I have heard people saying the fabric is way too long for them, and it was way too much of a hassle to deal with. I am on the taller side so didn't have a problem with it.
I did however see another carrier called the Baby K'tan...It looks like its very similar to the standard wrap for the Moby, but less material, and it might even be prewrapped for you...I know I've seen some that you just slip on in the standard cross hold position, but I can't remember what they were called. My suggestion is to find something similar to this unless you plan on using a variety of carries with the Moby. I found myself only using the basic hug hold & periodically used the newborn hug when he was little!!
Good Luck I love Moby (especially in the winter)
I love the Moby Wrap for newborns! It was the only baby carrier my DD would tolerate and she really liked it because she was facing out and could see. It does take a little getting used to for getting it on, but once you get the hand of it, it's a cinch. I highly recommend them! I loved wearing my DD in ours and I think it will be invaluable when baby #2 arrives in February.
the moby is awesome. they might be a bit hard to get used to putting on, but the good news is that you just put it on you and put baby in after you are done. make sure its going to be snug to hold your baby securly to your chest, and never face out with infants. always remember to be aware of the position of your infant in the sling; be aware of the neck position especially. just be sensible! :)
anyway good luck, and babywearing is one of the best things to do! :) i loved it and still used it with our 3 year old son this summer in south dakota! :)
LOVE my moby wrap. It isn't hard to get on once you learn it. When I had a newborn, I left it on all day and just put her in an out. Moby is a stretchy material so it is a bit more forgiving while you are learning. That wrap is the only way I survived having a newborn and a 14 month old!
I love the moby wrap...babies still feel they are a part of you after birth so the closeness is something they need. I received it as a gift from a friend and used it whenever I needed to get things done but the baby was fussy (not to mention much easier when going on instead of lugging a stroller about)...I put him in it and he is out like a light or either just observantly looking around the room...it's like i'm his legs then!
I bought a moby because I heard so many wonderful things about it. Maybe I am just slow or something, but I can never get it to feel secure. Baby always feels like he was falling out. I didn't like the moby at all.
I used a Moby with my youngest and I LOVED it! LOVE IT! I felt like she was so secure in it. I could nurse her anywhere and nobody ever knew. I really liked all that extra fabric in the winter. It kept her right next to me and all warm and cozy. I hate wearing coats, so it was extra warmth for me too ;) I threw a blanket over the baby to keep her warm. I love that it's so versatile. You can really use it for a LONG time.
It's kind of a pain to put on at first, I won't lie. Once I got used to it, it was no big deal though. I would put it on before I left the house so I wasn't standing in the cold putting it on.
My daughter is 16 months and I can still use it with her, when she lets me :) It's nice if we're going to be out and about during nap time. She'll usually sleep if she's in the Moby.
I have a friend who adopted and invested alot into the attachment parenting theories. She had a Moby and really loved it. I do home childcare and have used many traditional carries over the years, the ones with buckles and such.
I had been considering a Moby with my most recent "batch" of new babies and saw they had plain black ones at the local Target for $40 (same as the price I saw online at the Moby site), so I bought one. Its a huge 20 foot piece of double layer cotton knit fabric, with a specific cut shape to it. I was intimidated, but the little booklet had great pics and within a few minutes, and after trying it out on our largest baby dolly toy, I was ready to try it on a 9 week old baby (who cried alot..he wanted to be held and was NOT digging this new plan of breastmilk in bottles..the nerve of these adults ruining his plans! LOL)
But I got him into it and he loved it. And I loved it! It is THE. MOST.COMFORTABLE. carrier I have ever owned...and I have owned about 8 different ones over the years. No buckles, no straps, a very natural shape. I love it.
I will just leave it on if I plan to use it alot in the day, and wear a thinner tshirt under it, then have a thin zip up hoodie to put on to cover my arms. I live in MN, so in the summer it was very warm (some days I did a tank to[p under, altho I am not a tank top sorta gal, so opted for my super thin tshirts then, as the wrap and baby covered me otherwise. Its not something you can just "pop" off and on, you just leave it on, generally. But here in MN, its cold now, so the zip hoodies (my pref year round) works great.
I recommend it!
I debated between the Moby wrap or the SleepyWrap for my newborn. I chose the SleepyWrap (ordered it on Amazon) b/c reviews seemed to say that it is easier for new moms to get fitted right because it has a bit of stretch in it. We used it sooo much the first several weeks -- it was a lifesaver! Now my baby likes the Ergo carrier better but the SleepyWrap more than paid for itself in the first day I used it.
i bought a maya wrap and intended to use it with my son becuase i heard great things about it. i never got around to using it. i heard good things about the moby one too,
Never tried the moby wrap but my aunt made me 2 of the maya wraps. You can either buy them or get the pattern & make them. I LOVE THEM!! I used them with our middle child & again with this new one who is now 3 months. I don't use it much around the house anymore but when we are out & about I use it a lot rather than dragging the stroller around. The best thing about a wrap is it leaves your hands free & when you have a couple of older ones that is greatness! Hope you find one that works for you.
The Moby works really well! I loved it, and so does my friend who is currently borrowing it. It's not hard to put on once you've tried it a few times - I think the key is to tie it a little tighter than you think you should. It can get warm in the summer, but you shouldn't have to worry about that now. Good luck!
Check out this youtube video for a great instruction on the perfect wrap technique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CamfWi0cEU8
I loved the Moby with both of my kids. The first had horrible colic and practically lived in it for six months.
Good luck!
My moby isn't hard to get on but it made me and my baby way too warm. Currently, my baby (she is 7 months) hates it.
