I have to give my 4 yr old DD a pretty nasty tasting supplement (Ultra Clear renew) for the next few weeks. For the past 2 days we tried smoothies and shakes (we have to be diary free too!) and the best result we have had has been mixing it in goat yogurt with agave nectar. I decided to break it down to 2- 1/2 scoops twice a day so it totals a full scoop. Anyone else have suggestions about what I could do? My DD is awesome about taking her supplements I just feel so bad that it tastes awful! Thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did get some rice vanilla ice cream and found some fruit/cream (with very little caesin) parfaits. I am going to try to make frozen yogurt pops. The powder I have to give her is supposed to taste like vanilla but it has such a strong taste! My DD is such an amazing little 4 year old who will try anything. I just feel so bad for her....hopefully she is young enough to not remeber it ruining foods for her.

If she's ok about it, I think it's best to do it all at once and get it over with. Otherwise, I feel you run the risk of ruining other foods for her, because you can never completely mask the taste of nasty medicine.

What about a soy-based ice cream (with sprinkles to make it pretty!) or applesauce with cinnamon? Silk Chocolate soy milk is also very think and may mask the taste as well.

Not sure what your supplement tastes like, but I gave my son some meds the other day in the last two bites of his warm soup. The broth dissolved it a little. Other than that, we do smoothies too.

Hi J.,

My husband recently tried something nasty (for his diabetes) and refused to take it (not a trooper when it comes to tastebuds!). Someone suggested putting it in his oatmeal. He hasn't had any more issues!

If she's a trooper about taking her supplement, then its fine.
Its hard to completely mask, some tastes.

maybe try Guava juice.

I don't know if this will work for this but we had to give my son some medicine once that was very bitter tasting. The suggestion was that anything with chocolate would help hide the bitter taste. We tried pudding and chocolate milk. That doesn't help the dairy free though.
