My periods run anywhere from 23 days to 29 days. More often 23 to 27 days. One time it did go 30 days. Although I am now at 33 days+/- a day. My sister, me and husband all had a dream that I was pregnant (possibly on the same night) about 2 weeks ago. I have taken multiple tests that are negative. I have always shown positive when pregnant at approx 21 days. So I was curios if anyone has any suggestions of why I may be so late. I am no more stressed than usual so I dont think its that. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi, i am now pregnant with my second child, and had the same experience you describe. I took 7 pregnancy tests, the doctor told me to forget about it, I'm not pregnant. But instinctively i knew, plus a couple dreams, as well as physical symptoms. Finally, i got a positive result at about 6-7 weeks. So my advice is to just wait it out; if you start feeling symptomatic, continue to test at home once a week or so. Oh, and just in case you are, start taking folic acid now. Good luck!

I am 33 and this happened to me. I was always 28 days on the nose but the last year i'm all over the place from 26-30 days, but one month i was 9 days late. And yes I thought maybe i was pregnant. I took a test that was negative, and i finally got my period on that 9th day which is very unusual for me. I have never in my life been that late except for when i was pregnant. I think it does have a lot to do with stress, even if you don't think that you are under anymore than usual.

Plus the dreams don't help. My husband had a vasectomy and I was like 2 weeks late and that NEVER happens for me. My boobs hurt and I was stressed to think about a 4th but sort of excited, but then I found out a close family friend was unexpectedly pregnant, I chaulked it up as sympathy pains. I didn't ever tell anyone I was sort of excited about the thought of another baby but I was so maybe I wanted it to be TRUE! GOO luck to you in whatever happens

Hmmm. I'd try charting for a few months- and maybe looking at your thyroid health; but don't overrule a pregnancy yet! Check out one of the books on understanding your reproductive health like Taking Charge of Your Fertility or The Garden of Fertility.

One month while I was still nursing my first child who was 18 months, and experiencing irregular period intervals, I ovulated two times and so tests didn't read positive for me til day 42 or so because my second ovulation didn't occur til 20 or so days after my last period. I had a few weeks of suspense!

P.,
This is a long shot, but... have any females moved in with you recently? Here's why I ask. When I went away to college, I was on the pill, and my roommate wasn't. After living with me for three months, she casually said that her periods were erratic for the first time in years. Turns out that my ferimones (spelling?) were interfering with her body's hormone regulation. So, another woman living in close proximity with you could be the cause of your change in cycle.

My periods started to get longer about age 40. I am guessing that it's the start of menopause, actually. Periods get erratic from what they used to be, both in duration and frequency. Have any hot flashes started? Having said that, I should say that I had my 4th child at age 43! I was nursing and having hot flashes at the same time!

Mt sister didnt yesy positive for a month after her missed period. Even at the doctors office. Like others have said, the urine test is so not accurate ask for a blood test to be sure. If you aren't pregnant, I agree that at 40 years old, it is just possible that your hormones are slowing down and you will start to be more irregular than you ever were before. Either way, good luck to you.

it could also be the start of peri-menopause.

P.,
Missing your period or having it be late does not necessarily mean you are pregnant, it could be any number of other things. If I were you I would call my doctor and be seen soon, even if you do end up getting your period. Also keep track of things for the next few months to see if a pattern is forming. I have always had the opposite problem, my periods were massively heavy, causing me to be stuck at home during the majority of the time I was mensing. I do know from experience that you start to show signs of menopause years before you actually go through it. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that is the case with you, as I am not a doctor, only a nursing student, and can not make any kind of diagnosis. Call your doctor today and let me know how you make out.
Hugs,
T.

I think body is pretty sensitive to any change. When I was teenager, I did some diet, cutting back carbohydorate. Then my period stopped completely for about 2 years. I was as healthy as I could be and I didn't have any problem otherwise. Did anything changed in your life? Environment, some emotional things or taking medication, etc. I woudld wait and see a few more weeks then maybe talk to doctor.

Well, you could have ovulated later then you think you did and your hormone levels aren't high enough yet to get a positive. Wait a few days, maybe even a week and test again. If you can't do that call your doc's office and see if they can get you in for blood work. I know that pregnancy tests say they can test positive in as early as 5 days before a missed period, but that is like in 5% of the time. So, I'd wait a few days and try again.

Could be an unusual ovulation cycle and therefore a later than usual period despite your history...or you are pregnant and the levels of hcg are not yet high enough to detect either because you did ovulate later or they are not increasing at the same rate for some reason. Could be secondary to peri-menopause. Just some thoughts.

If it's not stress, it could be change of diet, the heat of summer or even the start of early menopause. I went into early menoause at age 40 and haven't had a period since. Maybe it's best for you at this time to go to your GYN doctor and get checked out....

Take a load off your mind and go to the doctor. At 40 you could be entering perimenopause or you could be pregnant! Either way you'll feel better knowing what's going on.

My first 2 tests were negative, and it wasn't until test n.3 that I found out I was 7 weeks pregnant with my daughter! When I was expecting my son last year, I decided to buy a pregnancy test that spells it out instead of showing a line as I think my hormones were too weak to show a visible line with my first pregnancy. It might be worth getting one of those or asking your doctor to take a blood test to trace HCG hormones?
Good luck!

Hi P.. You're 40 years old. You are probably starting perimenopause - which can last 10 or more years before you get your last period. While you may still be thinking that you're in your childbearing years and a missed period means a pregnancy since you have a one year old, you are at the age when women's periods become irregular.
I would suggest a blood test at your doctor's office (don't let them try to talk you into a urine test which is no different than the HPT you can buy) to rule out pregnancy.

Hi P.,
for me, my pregnancy tests were all negative first and showed positive later. It's possible you ovulated later than you thought, so it wouldn't be positive until later. I'd say, if you go beyond 36 days, which would be 1 week longer than your longest usual period, to head in and see your doc. I hate to say this, but I see that you are 40 and it could be that your periods are starting to become more irregular. I am 33, and was told that I could be going into premature ovulatory failure. My mom went into it early. She was DONE with her period by 38. For her, her cycles started to get really long. For me, they started to get super short. Anyhow, if you dont get a little positive sign in another few days, I'd say go and get things checked out.

Call your OB/GYN and request a blood preg. test and hormone check. It will tell you for sure if you are or aren't pregnant and the hormone tests will tell you if anything else is going on. At 40 you may start to see changes. I did at 22 YEARS OLD!!! A.

P.,

I really don't know, but I would guess that since you are 40 your periods might start becoming a little irregular in preparation for menopause. Do you know when your mom entered menopause or started having symptoms? Maybe some of the older moms who have been there will chime in if they think it is something like that.

The other question I would have, since your baby is only 15 months, is how long have you been having periods since that baby was born. I know personally that since I nursed my last baby for 17 months, my periods were very irregular until my body adjusted after she weaned. That might be another possible explanation.

Hi, P.. Recently I missed my perios and I was almost two weeks late and finally it came. What happened was around the time my mother passed away, a little over a month ago, I may have been ovulating and didn't realized it and it affected my period. I was wondering if I got pregnant even though we are using birth control because I can get pregnant very quick. I wondering how that is possible, but nothing is impossible for God if He wanted to bless us with another baby. Anyways, I was like, I was happy around the time I was to get my period, but if anything happened around the time you ovulate, it can affect the timing of your period. I wouldn't worry about it right now...watch it and mark it on your calendar and it happens again and you weren't stressed out in any shape or form, then you would want to talk with your OB about that. Small stress can affect a person a great deal....so take it easy...let us know how you made out and what is up...I'll pray for you.
