Misery Loves Company: Please Tell Me Pregnancy Stories

I am in the first trimester of my second pregnancy and absolutely miserable with nausea. I know all the tricks but there is really nothing that helps. I'll probably be in this stage for about 7 more weeks if it follows the same course of my other pregnancy. I know the end result is so worth it, but it's hard to think of that when you just want to always throw up. Please share your stories of misery with me. It's the only thing that makes me feel better right now. (I know this is a strange request.) If you had a wonderful, easy, nausea free pregnancy, I'm happy for you, but I don't want to hear from you.

FYI: I take phenergen for nausea at night and when I tried zophran it gave me horrible diarrhea so like I said, I've tried it all. I really just want to whine. That seems to be the best medicine for me.

What can I do next?

Thank you ladies for your sympathy and stories. I still feel like I'm going to vomit, but at least I know I am not alone.

Oh honey! My first, almost 15 yrs ago damn near killed me! I puked all day everyday and even had to keep a bucket by the bed because I would wake up out of a deep sleep to puke. From 5 wks until the boy was out of me I vomited. But it wasnt only that. Everything smelled bad and nothing tasted good. Nothing. Even candles and to this day I will puke if I smell a blueberry candle. O the misery! I lost 43 pds and back then they didn't give anything for morning sickness. I suffered through it. I never wanted to do it again but 10.5 yrs later I got preggo again and I only puked once! I didn't feel good until about 14 wks but I too had phenegran at night and after about a wk I could function and I got it at 6 weeks. Then I was starving and gained almost 70 pds! Oooppppssss! Hang in there love, I know how utterly miserable it can be!

Hang in there though and I shall do the same :) CONGRATS by the way!

When I was 4 1/2months pregnant, I fell in the backyard letting the dogs out. I was wearing nothing but a bathrobe, it was Easter & my husband was sound asleep. I tripped and fell. Couldnt stand up as my foot was bent in a weird position & turning purple. I had to crawl across the backyard and throw rocks at the bedroom window to get my hubbys attention. He finally looked out the window and came outside. He is a former emt, and the look on his face told me it was more than a sprain. I'm dramatic and insisted I was dying ( I wasnt) and 911 had to be called. 10min later here came 6 of the sexiest firemen abq has to come help carry my big fat pregnant half undressed pathetic looking me to the car ( an ambulance wasnt available) Got to the er, turns out I broke my foot, crushed my ankle, and broke my leg in 3 places. I had to have surgery the next morning. I ended up having 2 more surgeries all while pregnant, couldnt walk or even stand for 4months. I had my last surgery 13days before my induction. I was able to walk for the first time on aug 14th, on aug 15th my induction began, I had a c-section on the 17th. Between being pregnant, being pregnant with twins, and being broken I had 3-5 drs appts every week, took craploads of medication for pain, nasuea, constipation & bloodthinners ( which left me brusied and in even more pain) Couldnt do anything myself, I had to rely on everyone I knew which was one of the hardest things I have even done Im very independant. I was a miserable person for several months, but forgot all of it the moments they handed my twins to me :) I hope my misery makes you feel better!

I was super sick for 2 weeks straight with my first pregnancy. I was about 8 weeks pregnant, working at a temp job for the summer, and someone popped a bag of popcorn. It did me in. I ran to the bathroom, puked, sat back down, someone else opened a sub at their desk, ran back to the bathroom and puked again. This cycle went on for about 4 days before I finally had to quit. The girl who was my supervisor said she knew I was pregnant because the same thing happened to her. I'll never forget her saying, you'll get over it eventually, but your life is gonna suck for a couple weeks. She was 100% right.

All foods made me gag and then barf. It was so bad that any smells from food would send me straight to the bathroom to puke. I subsisted on ginger ale and maybe 1 sleeve of saltines for 2 weeks. My husband had to cook all his meals outside on the grill for those two weeks. And he ate most of them out there too in the hot, humid weather here in SC! He was so happy the day I finally got up and went into the kitchen for the first time in a LONG time to get a drink of water. He whispered, "can I eat inside now?" :)

Hope you feel better soon! I found out with my 2nd pregnancy that if I kept a little something in my stomach at all times, I was less likely to actually puke. So I became a "snacker" the first trimester and it helped a lot. I was constantly eating little bites of saltines, ginger ale, and grits. (I'm a southern girl.) :) Good luck and congrats!

Not a nausea complaint, but a further along back pain one. for 6 weeks during the second trimester, when everything is supposed to be golden and easy, I had a bad case of sciatica. Couldn't manage to walk, sit, stand, or lay down without pain. I am petite to start with, and wasn't yet looking pregnant, just fat. Had to face an hour long commute each way via subway and path from queens to NJ, on my feet during rush hour. Commuters paid me no heed, and some had the gall to purposely elbow my very slow moving self as they rushed past. The pain, jarring, bad attitudes, and hormones had me reduced to tears both ways.

Good luck, you won't be pregs forever.

Well, I had the unending nausea from about 5 weeks (?) until the day they were delivered. And my first child was 10 days late. So.... how does that make you feel? :)

Just a few more weeks.. lol

I woke up every morning to head straight into the toilet to throw up stomach acid for about 15 minutes. Dry heaves really. Every. Day. For the Entire. Pregnancy. Both. Times. And after the dry heaves were over first thing in the morning? The nausea stayed anyway. All. Day. All. Night. 24/7 for The. Entire. Pregnancy. Both. Times.
Zofran helped a little with the 2nd pregnancy... helped me be functional. I was finally able to stand up long enough to take a shower every other day!! WOO HOO.

My wonderful husband (with our first pregnancy) would get up and make me (runny) scrambled eggs for breakfast. He could NOT understand that a plate full of under cooked eggs was NOT what I wanted to see or eat after dry heaving stomach acid in the bathroom! It's the thought that counts, though, right? lol

Sucking on lemon drops at least helped keep that nasty taste at bay some of the time....
I hope you feel better soon!

I hear you girl!! I had severe nausea and vomiting with this one from 6 to 17 weeks. Nothing stayed down, not one bite during that time and I tried everything.
I even had a bad reaction to the sea sickness bands,I am in a small % where your arms swell LOL.
Now I am 30 weeks along and get sick around twice a week which is fine to cope with. The rest of the time I eat what I want and all the naughty stuff as I can due to all the weight I lost. I am actually alot slimmer now at 30 weeks gone than before I got preggers.
My pelvis is out so bad pain down my legs and feet. I have too much stretching in my pubic bone so I feel at times a bone is going to protrude out my vagina.I was also told that I am group B strep positive so I have to rush in for IV antibiotics as soon as labour starts.
So the good news, the severe nausea Does pass,it either completely goes or lessens.
Best of luck.

I'm sure this heat isn't helping you AT ALL. Have you tried Phenergan? My friend would have to basically have to have a 'spitoon' in her car just to drive to work. I have another friend who said she was on her couch with a bucket (an two other little ones!) for the first two months. Good luck. At least you know the end is near, but not soon enough, I'm sure.

Not sure if you'd be willing to try it but I was willing to try anything with my second pregnancy due to sickness. I tried EVERYTHING imaginable (and was on phenergen too but hated taking it) and finally tried acupuncture with Dr. Calli in Keller. She's AWESOME and it worked! I went from feeling sick ALL day and hardly functioning to being able to function fairly normal. I still had some sickness but it was DRASTICALLY reduced. I only went once, she said if I would have done it 2, maybe 3 at the most it would have completely went away. She does take insurance (mine didn't work though) so her price is $60 a session. Good luck!!

I had terrible moring sickness with both my kids. And it NEVER ended or got better. I actually threw up during my C section which they insisted I wouldn't do because of the med they gave me! I threw up all 9 months, morning noon and night. I actually had to keep a stack of plastic cups in my van because I would just randomly throw up in the cup then I could just throw it away...I know, SO GROSS!!! But...I had beautiful 11 pound babies so I can't complain! Good luck to you!!!

I didn't get neauseaous. I know you dont want to hear from me! lol But I just wanted you to know that nobody gets out easy. All 3 of my kids were born 2 weeks late in the summer. SO, I was hot, miserable, couldn't sleep, constant leg cramps, and 2 weeks overdue. Dr. says to walk and I say it's 110 degrees jerk! Also all 3 babies were close to 10 lbs, beacause they were so overdue they gained a pound a week in those last 2 weeks. I didn't get the the hospital in time with any of them for an epidural. SO, I had giant babies with no pain relief. My back hurt constantly and I was just generally miserable, fat pregnant, emotional and weepy in the heat. Is that enough misery to make you feel better? :)

With my first, I was sick almost from the very beginning until I was almost 5 months along. I lost weight instead of gaining. I had hemorrhoids so bad I crawled to my phone to call my doctor. He gave me every nausea med available, but nothing worked. I lived on saltine crackers. I threw up Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. It finally subsided for the most part after my 4th month ended. At the beginning of my 8th month, I came down with a severe case of bronchitis with very high fever. My doc was checking me for pneumonia and found a melanoma on my back. (Thank God for the bronchitis!) Before he could remove it, though, I had to get over the bronchitis. While I was in the hospital with the high fever, I went into false labor and was in labor a whole day before they determined I was not going to deliver. I recovered, was sent home for 3 weeks, and then had surgery. The day after that I delivered my 6.5 lb. daughter. Oh, and the doc that was supposed to administer the anesthesia was on the golf course and didn't make it in time. I had her with no help. Second time I was sick for 3 1/2 mos, and then delivered breech. That was it for me!!!

I feel your misery! When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had nausea 24/7. I didn't always throw up but I felt like I was just on the verge of it all the time. I was also working full time and that was not fun. My husband and I were going to go out for dinner one night, but we had to stop at another restaurant so I could go in and throw up first. When I went in for one of my check-ups, I started to cry and asked my doctor when would it end (my first pregnancy). He said, "When you think you can't stand one more day of nausea, it will be over." He was so right! One day I just broke down crying because I couldn't take it anymore. The next day it was gone. Hang in there!

Both my best friend and my sister-in-law had severe nausea during their first trimester. Both of their Dr's put them on an anti-nausea medicine that seemed to help, although it was very expensive. You might ask your OB about it. Hope this helps, and I hope you start feeling better soon.

I had really bad morning sickness with this one. I am 32 weeks and I am still miserable. I am overweight and I lost 20 lbs so far cause I just don't want to eat. The heat has been aweful this year and I always feel like I am going to vomit when the humidity is high. As for the loosing weight the dr hasn't said anything cause the baby is the right size. I have really bad leg cramps this time. Not in the calves but in my ankles, I can't sleep cause I can't get comfortable and constantly waking in the middle of the night to pee. My first was easy. I had none of this. My first was a girl, my second is a boy. I told everyone that this one had to be a boy cause only males could make you feel this aweful! LOL!!! The only thing is with my first the heartburn was so bad that I was eating Tums like they were C.. This time is bad but only at night. I wake up with dry heaves in the morning and throw up bile. I can't wait for October to get here already so this can be over with. I loved being pregnant the first time, but this time not so much. And when he kicks it actually hurts sometimes. I asked the dr on Thrusday and she said that this is normal. She has had alot of women tell her that its painful. Sometimes I swear that when he kicks his foot is going to come out.
So hang in there. Hopefully it will get better for you. But know that you are not the only one that is miserable. Good Luck and Congrats on your little one.

So sorry, is there any worse felling than the constant nausea..I guess, but when you are going through it you can't think of any thing! I couldn't be around raw meat. I couldnt even go by the meat counter at Walmart. My husband, the original cave man, had to really man up and buy the meat and cook it. Sometimes dill pickles would take the bad taste out of my mouth. Most of the time it was just sitting around shallow breathing, and waiting for my eyes to tear up and my face to turn red while running to the bathroom. Hope you feel better!

I think I can help.
For my entire first 16weeks I felt nauseas all day, every day. I could never understand why they called it morning sickness when for me it lasted all day.
I had a few nice weeks in the second tri, then got sick with the WORST cold of my life. I actually thought I had pneumonia. It was horrible. While I was lying on the futon blowing my nose, coughing every 3 seconds around the clock, and taking no medication for it, I actually missed my 10 year high school reunion! I was too sick to go. The thing is I was really looking forward to the reunion. I love the kids I went to school with and I was super bummed to miss it.
In addition to missing the reunion, my husband went to a concert that same week while I was sick. It just happened to be my favorite band. Of all time. Favorite. I was PISSED. I didn't put up a fight because I was literally too sick to do so. As soon as I recovered I let him have it though! LOL we still joke about his poor decision making/lack of judgement. Needless to say, he stuck by my side for the remainder of my pregnancy.
By the third tri I had developed pretty back back spasms, as well as rectal spasms (ever heard of those before? Me neither! They SUCK!), an anal fissure, and hemorrhoids! I know, what's with all the butt stuff, right? Who the F knows. I could not wait to give birth.
I hope that made your day a little better ;)
In all seriousness, things will get better. Hang in there!

I feel you, I had bad all day sickness with both my pregnancies. My youngest is 4 months old and my oldest 15 months old. I had morning sickness with my first for round 3 months and my second I had it for 5 months. It sucked so much. What really sucked was most of the time I threw up at night, and I would go back and forth with Diarrhea and constipation. Lucky for me no hemorrhoids for that pregnancy. But my second one I had bad hemorrhoids and still do (TMI I know lol). I had a vaginal birth with my first and an emergency c-section with my second. Having my second was such a hassle, because I live in another country. I live in South Korea. There is only one military hospital here and thats 4 hours away from me, so I had to go to an off post hospital, which they let me labor for 24hours before they decided to do the C-Section. The pain was horrible, their meds were horrible and the nurses glared at you if you needed their help with anything. From what I was told it wasn't in Korean nurses job description to help the patient, just to tell them things and bring your meds that's it. They also wouldn't let my husband and I touch our baby at all. we couldn't hold him either, I wanted to breast feed but because he was in the NICU for a week I couldn't he had taken to the bottle and then didn't want to breast feed. After that my milk dried up. I was so upset.

Don't worry try sucking on mints, and get candied ginger. That helps too. Good luck.
