I am 8 weeks pregnant and my doctor can not find a heartbeat and has not seen fetal growth and says I will miscarry. Does anyone know how long before I should expect symptoms to start? When can I can I expect my pregnancy symptoms (nausea) to go away?

T.,
I am so very sorry. I had two miscarriages and no matter what length of your pregnancy, it is a loss. I was 10 weeks, no heartbeat or sign of life. My choice was to have the baby abort naturally or do a DC. I chose the DC only because the waiting to see "when" was unbearable when there was no chance of life. It was difficult but the daily "Will it be today" was worse. Just a little information, 1 out of 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. It is more common than you think and it should be mourned, treated and counseling (if necessary) as a loss. My prayers are with you and your family. God bless.

I don't have any advice on the symptoms and such but did want to make sure to say I'm sorry for you and your family's loss. Hopefully the rest goes smoothly for you and you have success should you decide to try for another pregnancy.

First I am sorry about your possible loss... I agree with one of the other mom's that you should get a second opinion and wait just in case... I have had 2 losses, one misscarrage, and one at 32 weeks... My misscarrage however I was bleeding when I went into the doctor so we knew it was true... It is right that the heartbeat is hard to detect... Even with a vaginal ultrasound it can be... I also have a uterine fold and with this current pregnancy they had a rough time finding a heartbeat at first too... There are many things to look into... My nausea was there till the bleeding stopped for me with my misscarrage, but I was told it can be different for everyone... I hope it is gentle on you and please know i will say a prayer for you...

I am so sorry to hear about your loss! I am not sure I have never been in that situation, but my neighbor was at four months pregnant and it took her three days to pass her baby. It is very emotional experience I would talk to your doctor if you need some support from other Moms that know more or just need someone to talk to.

You will be in my prayers
take care

I miscarried at 12 weeks, my dr said the baby had probably not made it past 5-6 weeks. There had never been a fetal heart rate that could be detected, and my nausea was only a day or two in the 4th-5th week. A blood pregnancy test confirmed I was no longer pregnant.

Typically you can't find a fetal heart rate until close to 12 weeks. Trying to find one at 8 weeks, and not finding it, doesn't mean it's not there, it's maybe too tiny to be detected. If you still have pregnancy symptoms, I'm not sure I'd say you've miscarried. You may want to take a wait & see approach?

One of my girlfriends was almost 15 weeks pregnant before a heart rate was detected, because her uterus actually had a fold in it, and the baby was behind the fold. Once the baby started to grow, the uterus stretched out the right way, and everything was fine. Her dr had told her the same thing, and when she didn't miscarry for weeks, she was worried she'd need a dnc....she saw a different dr, and there was her baby girl, perfectly healthy...and alive....all along.

Maybe just give yourself some time. If you still have symptoms, that could truly be a good sign. If there is no change at the 12 week stage, then maybe you should have an ultrasound to take a good look. I hope I'm not steering you wrong, but that was my experience, and a friends'.

Good luck! And I hope everything turns out well. If not, then I'm so sorry, as I do know how it feels to miscarry.

First of all I just want to say how sorry I am for your loss.

I miscarried between my two children and we didn't expect anything was wrong until I started bleeding. I went to the doctor and was told that I'd m/c within 24-48 hrs. Sure enough that's when it happened.

I continued to have m/s up until the point to where my blood tests came back as HcG down to zero.

Hugs. Take care.

I'm also sorry for your loss. Mine took 2 weeks to complete. If I had it to do over I would do the d&c so that I could move on. It was a miserable long 2 weeks. I was 13 weeks a long so would have been 15 weeks when the loss happened.

I am sorry for your loss. I had a m/c at 10 weeks (the baby stopped growing at 8, and no heartbeat). After I had a d&c, my symptoms went away within a week. Emotionally, it takes longer. Feel free to email me, if you would like support.

I am so sorry for your loss. I miscarried at 7 weeks 3 years ago. Mine happened differently. I had already started bleeding. "The Nest" has a great pregnancy loss board with lots of great ladies on it. It can be very helpful. Good Luck and again I am very sorry for your family's loss.
