Mirena Update

I asked awhile back about getting the Mirena while breastfeeding. I got it inserted a week ago today and have noticed no change in my milk supply so thank you ladies who commented on my site. Now I have a few more questions. When did you who have had it before notice side effects? I started bleeding 2 days ago (I was kind of hoping I would miss that part since I never get my period back while nursing) but I have heard other people felt it or got moody or all sorts of stuff. I just want to know if I am past some of that stuff or if it could still happen. I am just nervous it was so expensive I would hate for it not to work. Seems fine now though minus the bleeding!

I guess since one person read my last post and then said they shouldn't have posted I should say I do want to know what experiences you have had with your mirena- good or bad my main question is when did side effects start? I just want to know when I could be out of the woods or if it takes several months to notice things!

What can I do next?

I had spotting for about 4 months after - which was annoying because, like you, with my previous child I didn't get a period back at all until he weaned.

However, other than that, I had (and have) no side effects at all. And I lost all my baby weight within 6 months, so it definitely did not make me gain weight. The only side effect I have is a good one - when my child did wean and my periods came back, they were very light and short - spotting for a day or two and that's it. Now (3 years later) they have stopped altogether. Mirena is really great for me.

I got the Mirena back in April of last year. I started spotting pretty much right away (within a couple of days). I spotted off and on for several weeks, then it tapered off to spotting only during my cycle. It took about 6 or 7 months to stop spotting at all. I do still have very light spotting only every once in a while (like not even enough to need a panty liner). I got a little bit of moodiness at first but that evened out after a couple of months. But I think I am peri menopausal so it could be that too. I only have the Mirena so I don't have periods as my husband has been fixed. I didn't have any of the other side affects noted by others. I've been very happy with my Mirena and have had good luck with it.

It has been a good experience for me! I just passed 4 years with mine (planning to get it out this summer when we will start "trying for #2"). I still have some of the PMS moodiness and very light spotting, but it's really nothing compared to the cramps, b***hiness, and heavy cycles I used to have! I was nervous about it, because I had NEVER been on BC before having my girl, and this seemed so... *invasive* to me! But, like I said, only good things! We'll see if I still feel the same when I have it out and my hormones get all wacky! :)

My experience has been greasy hair, no cycle, facial and darker hair, severe acne, some weigh gain and numbness of fingers and feet. No mood swings. I talked to my doctor and she recomended to give it a bit of more time to see if my hormones adjust to the change. I've had it since Sept 2012.

EDITED- sorry I should have read your first message. disregard my comment above. It has nothing to do with you comment and or suggestions.
