I am considering an IUC and wanted to get feedback on Mirena vs. Paragard.
Mirena is hormone based
Paragard is Copper (no hormones, no weight gain, etc)

Please send me your experiences and feedback.
Thanks,

I've had the Paragard in for about 2 1/2 years and I like it. At first, my periods were long and heavy with a lot of side effects but that has since improved. I don't know if it was because of the IUD or not.
No problems.

I had Paragard for 3+ years. I had it removed before I got pregnant. I loved it! My period cramping was a little worse every month, but I didn't care. I was just happy I didn't have to take a pill everyday. I like Paragard b/c there aren't any hormones.

Having it put in/out can produce light cramping and a little lightheadedness. You might want to plan to have a couple hours to yourself afterwards, if possible, to lie down. Though, you've been through childbirth twice, so a little cramping probably won't slow you down! :)

While I have never had Paragard, I don't mind my Mirena IUD. I've had it about two years now and life is good. I've had maybe two actual periods, about 4 or 5 spotting that may have lasted at most a day, and little to no cramping when I have had a cycle. I already have wacky hormones, but the hormone involved only affects the uterus, not me. They make your uterus believe it's already pregnant (thats what my doc said). I do have to say it's a bit weird to know you have a little dodad inside of you, but most days I don't even think about it. Also I agree with the gal who said get some rest afterward. Your doctor should tell you how to prepare for the procedure, but take the afternoon to relax with a good book or show. I was just so crabby from the cramping, I just wanted to be left alone. I hope this helps.

now you have another positive vote for Paragard - I can't have any hormones because of a history of blood clots and I've been very happy -absolutely no side effects of any kind whatsoever for 1 1/2 years now.
