I've heard from a friend recently that once she got her Mirena she no longer had her hormonal mood swings, cramps, etc every month. This really made me want to get the Mirena. Has anyone else had this experience or has anyone had a different/ opposite experience? I know there's been alot posted on the Mirena on here but I don't know how to search for the previous posts. Thanks for any input on your experience.

Hey G.!

I have Mirena and I love it! I have had it in for about 3 mos now. I will be honest and tell you that at first it took a couple of months before my body got use to it. I spotted a and what not but this month has been great! I have not really noticed any mood swings lately rither! ! My periods are not lasting as long either so that maybe why? I think you would like it. I did have any cramps this month either! So far I like it!

I have had mine in 3 years and love it. Fortunately no problems. After about 4-5 months no more cramps or bleeding.

Lots of people do well on it, however I did not. I was crazy mean!! I thought maybe it was postpardom depressions since I had one put in about 6 weeks after delivery, but I felt amazing up until then. I was seriously moody, and insisted on getting it out only 3 months later. Within a week, back to my old self. Some folks just cant tolerate hormones. I, quite frankly, also dont feel really comfortable with stopping my body from doing something it is naturally supposed to do:) Just wanted to throw the other side out there, Good luck ~A.~

I've had my mirena for almost 9 months now and I LOVE it! There has been some very negative stuff posted on this site from other moms about it, but it is a miracle in my book! I barely have a period, just enough to wear a thin pad for about 3 days a month. But I will warn you that after I first got the mirena put in, I spotted for several days and then I would spot randomly during the first few months which was annoying. But about 5 months after insertion, I was totally regular again and it's been so great! I don't think I hardly have hormonal mood swings at all! I've heard some people say it was so painful during insertion, but mine went in very fast and was just a little uncomfortable. The next day I had some cramping and spotting, etc.
Anyway, I'd say that once you get it, you have to allow a few months for your body to adjust to it.
Good luck! I am thrilled to not have to worry about taking the stupid pill everyday!

I loved Mirena! I had it for a little over a year, but had it removed last month to try for baby #2! I will get it again after we have our next child. I spotted off/on for about 5 weeks, then had no period/spotting at all. I had no cramps, or any other pms symptoms. It was not painful, just mild cramping, when inserted, and I couldn't even feel it when it was removed. Talk to your ob/gyn about it to see if it would be a good choice for you! I loved mine!
