well i am going to call the doctor this morning just to make sure its ok. i had the paragaurd in 3 years ago and did not like that one. i bleed heavier then i ever have,it was crazy. i got on this due to my heavy periods and i already have 2 kids, boy and girl so i dont want anymore , but to scared to go get it tied. i guess i really dont remember bleeding like this with the paragaurd, everyone tells me it was alot worse, but like i said it was 3 to 4 years ago. i dont remember . thank you all for you answers i will inform what the doctor has to say. thanks again

I bled a lot right after getting mine put in - almost continuously for many weeks. Now I'm not having any bleeding. Your situation sounds normal based on what I was told, but of course, if you're concerned you should ask your Dr.

For the first few months, you'll have some spotting and irregularity and even heavier periods, but it will even out after a while, then become a trickle or stop altogether. When I was on Mirena (I had it removed for other reasons), it took about 3 months to adjust fully. Then it was like I didn't have a period at all (THAT part was wonderful). What you're describing sounds pretty much like what I also experienced. If you're really concerned, give your doc a quick call, but it does sound normal to me.

The first month after insertion is different, because it can disrupt the lining of the uterus, causing bleeding. I would call and check in, but I wouldn't worry too much.
Good luck!

this sounds normal. mine was random and crazy like this too for quite a few months. after a while, this will settle down and eventually you should have no period altogether, or go months without it. so if you want to stick with this a couple more months, it will be fine.

watch for odd symptoms though; ive been having some trouble with cysts, though the last doctor i saw had a different opinion (finally) and thought it had more to do with an imbalance from my whole life, rather than the iud.
so just take it easy, but it should be ok.

Got mine in December I spotted past Valentines I remember that. lol. I bitched to my OB about it.Said it was normal and if it was too much we could remove it. Removing 600 bucks was pretty not a pretty option. So I kept it and hated it silently. I spotted forever. Now I spot here and there but I haven't gotten a period.

I haven't noticed anything yet that is more annoying than that. Just wear panty liners for months I guess and sometimes you'll find you have spotting but it doesn't leave your area so your undies will be fine. Or at least mine have.

I got mine in Oct. 2008 after the birth our our twins (2 nd and 3rd children). I hated it at first- kind of pinched and experienced cramping- but felt bad about taking it out right away. I waited a bit, and it went away. At 6 and 7 months post pardum (I stopped nursing my twins at 4 months as I couldn't keep up with them)- I kept taking pregnancy tests as I still hadn't gotten my cycle back. I finally called my OB and found out that 20% of women never get their cycle back when on Mirena. I never have.... if you're concerned, I'd just contact your OB and am sure they'll put your mind at ease.

I bled for 3 months straight with Mirena....then it stopped. they say thatyou can bleed for up to 4 or 6 months (i think). They say that it is NORMAL to bleed that long. If you don't stop bleeding after that, then your body will not adjust to mirena, and you will have to have it taken out.

After the 3months, I stopped bleeding. ANd now I only have light short periods.

I currently have a Mirena IUD and in the beginning had an irregular period, even though I was like clock work on normal periods. It was light sometimes, heavy other days. Not sure if it was the actual IUD or if it was from nursing. Are you nursing? The gyno should have explained this to you before insertion. Please check out their site for more info:

I have had it now for four years. I barely have a period anymore, if sometimes at all. I have been noticing weight gain and bloating... so I am in at a time where I'm deciding if I want to switch to the Paraguard.

Good luck :)
