Had one, nursed for 6 months, LOVED IT! Got pregnant within 6 weeks of having it removed
I recently had the Mirena IUC...I am a little nervous and was wondering if anyone out there had it and got pregnant. Also my Dr. said it was fine that I was nursing but the pamplet said that if your nursing ask if it is right for you??? What does this mean? Am I just being parnoid???
Thanks, I knew I was being paranoid. I appreciate everyone taking the time to share their experiences with me.

I had Mirena in while nursing. I actually asked my lactation consultant because I figured she might dig further than my OB would. She said I was the first to ask her if it was safe to use while nursing so she did have to do some research and she came back with, "it is one of the safest options out there"
I had it pulled in April in order to conceive and am now 8 weeks pregnant. My husband and I were surprised I was able to get pregnant so fast since it took more than a year with our first child.
Good Luck!
Well I used a progestin only bcp while nursing after doing enough research where I felt comfortable. I know that there are progestin only pills, depro preva is progestin only and I do think that mirena is as well but definitely check that bc I am not totally sure. When I was looking into all this I found that they did research on test groups of kids who were nursed while these types of bc were used and after like 20 years or something didn't show any signs of being affected by the use of progestin hormones while they were nursed. I was a little hesitant but I took them and felt great and my son is smart as a whip and super healthy. The only thing I found was that I did have a hard time losing weight but that could have been from other factors such as adjusting to motherhood etc. Just look into a little deeper and then make the choice that you are really comfortable with. Best wishes!!
I got the Mirena after having my 3rd child. I was nursing and told it was safe. Well, one week after having it inserted I had to have emergency surgery to get it removed because it had actually perforated my uterous and was floating somewhere in my body. They found it in the culdasac behind the uterous. My OB with my 4th child said it could have been caused because of nursing. When you nurse your uterous contracts. After delivery it is soft and with the contractions it just pushed it out of the uterous. So, find out what the risks of that happening are. I haven't heard of it being a common thing or not but that was my experience. After the birth of my 4th I had Implanon inserted into my arm. It is a low dose progestine releasing form of birth control that is inserted into your arm and is good for 3 years. I haven't had any problems with it other than not being able to loose weight. I wish I could blame it all on the birth control but, I'm sure most of it is my lifestyle. So, you might consider asking your doctor about implanon.
I had a Mirena put in right after I had my son. And I nursed him for the first 6 months of his life. Everything was absolutely fine. I had no issues, he had no issues. Trust what your doctor says and if he/she says that you can have one and nurse, then everything should be fine. The only thing I've noticed with the mirena is that my periods have been a little irregular. But for me that's totally worth having a very reliable birth control option. It's one of the most effective on the market.
I'm not sure specifically about Mirena, but my doctor put me on the "mini pill" when I was nursing due to some concerns about the full strength pills drying my milk up. I would call your doctor and ask if you have any questions. Better to get it straight from the source than to have us guessing. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!
