I never felt mine. And they soften over time--you don't need an appointment.

Look up the local chapter and call. They have a sliding scale pay wise. Pretty simple

Oh and you should ALWAYS be able to feel the strings. They are a metal with a plastic coating on them. They don't disintegrate over time. You are suppose to check for them monthly so you know for sure it's in place. My doctor couldn't stress that enough. If you don't they are no longer used properly and 99% effective. So if you don't get your bottom in there and until then use back up birth control.

I would call them and tell them what's going on. Maybe they have a sliding scale and can work out a payment with you? HTH!

Last time I was there (it's been a few years) they had a sliding scale. Just call them and ask ! :)

basically, you just call them up and make an appt.

HOWEVER, you should talk to your current/regular clinic/doctor. MANY clinics have community care or something similar to help people in your position. usually you can get medical assistance through your county also. theres no reason that you should feel like you HAVE to go to planned parenthood because of insurance issues; theres always a way.

ALSO HOWEVER:
not feeling the string is not a bad thing. i havent felt mine since 2 months after it was placed. some people it just doesnt stay out. as long as you dont think you passed anything out, its still in there, its just sucked the string up. no biggie. :) :) you could try calling your doctors office and talking to the nurse, someone might just tell you that its ok without even having an appointment.

I have not felt the strings on my first Mirena either. The doctor just cut them little too short. Never had a problem with it and removing it was not problem either. If you feel that something might be wrong then have it checked.
