I have had mine for almost a month and have not had issues with yeast infections or hairloss. I would just ask your GYN about it.
Hello,
I had Mirena IUC put in July 23rd. So far I've had no major issues. No problems with insertion, very little spotting after. My first period came a little earlier and lasted longer than normal but for only having it a few weeks I did not consider that a problem. I have been fighting a slight yeast infection (treated with Monistat and it came back) I figured I would talk with OB when I go for follow up this month. My bigger concern is hair loss. This last two weeks I have been experiencing hair loss similar to that a few weeks after I gave birth to my boys. I have been researching on the web and though the internet is great source of info, it is mostly negative. So I want to know if there are Mamasource Moms out there that had/have Mirena? Did you experience hair loss? Did it stop like it did after a few weeks when I lost it after childbirth? What about the yeast infection? Just want to try to gather more info so I'm knowledgable when I go for my follow up.
Thanks!

I've had Mirena since July of 2005. I've never experienced any problems...no hair loss, no yeast infections, nothing of the sort. So far, so good...and it's been over 3 years. The only thing that I wish were different is that I was one of the lucky ones to no longer get a period or get a shorter period. Unfortunately I get one every month and it lasts 7-10 days - granted it is VERY light, but it's still there. :( Oh well, it could always be worse. Anyway, your best bet is to definitely talk with your doctor at your next appointment. He/she is going to be the best one to help you. Good luck...
Hi C., I've had the Mirena for almost 6 months now and I'm weighing the pros and cons as to whether I should have it removed. I've had a voracious appetite which has of course resulted in gaining about 8 lbs. So upset! Trying to eat better now and up my activity but I seem to always be starving! But my main complaint is extremely sore, swollen breasts for most of the month. Just what a short girl with 36 DD's needs, right?! ha. And I still get a light period that lasts for 2 weeks!!
As you can see, the cons are outweighing the pros (I don't need the birth control part of it since dh has been fixed...I have it to control heavy bleeding) but I don't want to be too hasty. I decided I will leave it in for another 2 or 3 months. If this doesn't improve I gonna have that thing yanked!! (ewww, sorry) :)
No hair loss at all. No yeasties either. GL with yours!!
Btw, my sister also has one. Absolutely loves it and should be the poster child for it. No side effects and no periods. Darn LIttle Miss Perfect!! >:-O lol Take care.
want to try something with no side effects and just as effective and good for you and your marriage and all natural...check out www.ccli.org
God's Peace and Blessings,

I agree with the other women who've suggested you talk to your OB/GYN about your issues. They may be totally unrelated to your Mirena. I've had mine for almost 2 years now, and I haven't had any side effects with it of which I'm aware. I did have a yeast infection recently, but I never related it to having my Mirena. I think I was just dehydrated and my immune system was off at the time. Good luck, and I hope you discover the source of your concerns.
Hi C.,
I had the Mirena for 7 months and just recently had it removed due to terrible side effects. I only had slight hairloss & yeast infections weren't an issue. Joint pain, headaches, moodswings and weight gain were what did me in. I couldn't take it anymore & I've felt so much better since I took it out. You can go to the hormone free IUD instead - not sure if your doc told you that. I know some women really love the Mirena and I did too at first but once those hormones built up, I felt like I was losing my mind. Best of luck to you.
This may or may not apply but if you have recently stopped nursing, you can have symptons similare to post birth due to hormone changes. It may not be due to the mirena at all.
I have no experience with Mirena, but I do have plenty of experience with yeast infections. Every time I start to feel it I increase my intake of yogurt and add some cranberry juice, usually mixed with apple or raspberry juice, and it's gone in less than a weeks time.
I hope you find relief soon.
Hey C., I have had my Mirena for 1 and a half years now with no major issues, I love not having a period other than occasional spotting. I haven't had one since after the first few months of insertion of the mirena. I am a 39 yr old Mom of a 2 1/2 yr old boy who works pt-full time. I had hair loss and exhaustion but don't believe it was related to the Mirena, My thyroid tested low so I am now on synthroid which has worked. Make sure the Dr. tests your thyroid!
Goodluck,
V.
I would talk to the doctor about your symptoms. I've had my Merena since April, 2005 and love it. I haven't had a single period since the insertion! I've not experienced any hair loss, either (quite the opposite!)
See what the Doc says!
I have had Mirena since Feb 2006 and love it. My cycles were odd for about the first 6 months. If I experienced any hair loss, it wasn't that obvious to me. I haven't had any other infections either. For me, Mirena has been the best and easiest birth control method. Several of my coworkers have it too and they've never mentioned any problems. Talk to your doctor, but you may just want to give it a little more time.
