Mint as a Gift

I have lemon mint in my yard. It is absolutely great for sun tea. If you know anything about mint, you know that it returns every year and it spreads. Seeing all of the end of year gift questions here got me to thinking. I would like to find a way to give mint to my daughters' teachers. I am trying to find a cute, creative way to give it as a gift.

I want some way to say you can plant it in your garden and enjoy your summers with sun tea. How do I do that?

What can I do next?

I would buy a pretty tea pitcher, put in some tea bags and some of the mint (probably in a pretty mesh bag with a ribbon) and a little Thank you card with a "recipe." You could also put in some butter cookies or something that could be enjoyed with the tea.

Oh, what an awesome idea! I love my herb garden but the lemon balm/mint has taken over and choked out the oregano, most of the bee balm and even some of the catnip (also in the mint family).
I like the teacup idea! I would love to get a gift like that!

BTW Lemon balm also makes a wonderful herb butter and lemony herb cookies. Tons of recipes on line!

Going with Sara's idea... I'd get a teacup, and plant the mint in it. Make a note explaining the plant, and attach it with a ribbon. Done.

I think it's a cute idea, but also keep in mind that mint can really be a scourge if you plant it in the ground (talk about spreading - it's worse than bamboo, or ivy!). I would definitely buy a flower pot and plant the mint in there, so they don't mistakenly plant it in their flower bed and then have it take over their entire yard (I speak from experience, LOL). Then give the mint in the flowerpot to the teacher with a card that explains that it is lemon mint, great for sun tea. (My aunt grows chocolate mint and makes a liqueur that is absolutely to die for - I bet lemon mint would be great for that, too!) One way to make it more personal is to have your child paint the flower pot, maybe put their hand print and name on there. My mom was a teacher for 20 years and she loved those types of gifts.

You could wrap a package with the mint tied into the bow. It will smell great andmake for a pretty adornment. you could also use it on the outside of cards as decoration. I like the teacup idea. Or even the tea pitcher idea.
