I have a 2007 Odyssey and LOVE it! I agree with others, that it sounds like you just got a bad one. Good luck.
Ok I had a 2007 Honda Odyssey. Bought it a year ago, because of all the excellent reviews on line, and word of mouth for its reliability, re-sale value, roomy interior, and great looks. Well after a month of owning it, we had problems with it. Thankfully we have an extended warranty. That ran out a month ago
Now a few days ago the Transmission went haywire. With a several quotes on price the lowest was 4,500. We are in the process of dealing with it at the HONDA level as far as helping us with fixing it. Though we are seriously considering a new mini van all together. I will not go Odyssey again.
Give me your suggestions and why you like it, so I can make better choice second time around.
Apparently Honda has a serious problem with all transmissions in all years from 2001 to 2010. So much so there is a website dedicated to class action suits and help with diagnostics as well. unfortunately I did not see this site when looking at reviews. Because of this problem, Honda has set aside financial aid for those that come to them at that level, so thats what we are doing. They are considering extending the warranty for us after fixing it, and paying 75% but that has not been confirmed yet. If that is the case then I will be more willing to buy the Odyssey again.

it's not a mini van, but has all the perks of one.... I have a Chrysler Pacifica and I LOVE it!!!! it seats 6 - 2 in front, 2 captain chairs in the middle, and 2 in the 3rd row. I have had every seat full and everyone felt pretty comfortable. It just doesn't have the sliding side doors.
Don't buy a Kia, we have had nothing but ongoing problems. The lights go out randomly, it won't start and they don't know why, it runs thru batteries like crazy, sometimes the doors won't open, handles will just come off in your hand, all kinds of problems. Good luck.
My friend loves her Volkswagon. She had purchased a nice, decked out Dodge/Chrysler (whatever they are) and then totaled it in an accident (not my friend's fault).
Based on what the insurance was willing to pay, they found a newer model even MORE decked out Volkswagon (was actually less than their old van).
She really seems to like it. Calls it her spaceship because there's so much technology in it...
I have a 2005 Ford Freestar. I absolutely love it!!!. I haven't had any problems with it, it has good space and has a little mirror that lets you take a peek at the kids. :) The seats are movable for space if you need and has very nice features. The one and only thing is that you can't fit a baby seat at the very back of the van, and you have to put it in the captain seats in the middle. I was going to anyway, but that bugged me hahaha.
Hope you find this helpful! :)
We have a Toyota Sienna and love it. Our neighbors also had trouble with their Odyssey and ended up selling it after only a few months. However, I know many people who drive them that love them so I don' tknow. I'm someone who once said I'd never drive a minivan, but now I don't know if I couldn't not with 3 kids and all our gear. Love our Sienna!
I just wanted to say I'm sorry about your experience. Maybe it was the year? Our Odyssey is a 2000 (yes, I have had it 11 years) and it's still in great shape.
I'm really surprised you've had so many problems with your Odyssey and it sounds like you got a lemon. I had a 2000 Odyssey for 11 years without any major problems (just the sliding doors) and now have a 2011 Odyssey that I absolutely love. I've never heard of anyone (until now) who has had problems with them. Anyhow, when I was van shopping my 2nd choice hands down was the Toyota Sienna. It just came down to the difference of a few features. I considered a cross over vehicle, but I really wanted the space and sliding doors of a mini van.
We bought a previously owned Toyota Sienna about 3 years ago. It is a pleasure to drive and very reliable. We have only done routine work on it - no surprises. It is a 2006. We would love to upgrade to a newer model when the time is right. But we will be sticking with a Toyota!
It depends what you want in a van. Most are not super-friendly for carseats. We have the 2011 Honda and it's great. Can easily fit 5 carseats and 6 if you plan it right. Depends how many kids you have and how many tethers, etc. you need. Sounds like this car was a dud?
We too wanted used but then we were worried because you never know with used...so we went with new.
Not that that's the only solution, of course.
