Hello mommas.. need some guidance. I have been prescribed the "mini pill" from my OBGYN and want to get some feedback from you mommas out there. Did it effect your milk supply? Did you have any crazy side effects? I am a little nervous about taking it before I know what I'm getting myself into. TIA.

What can I do next?

I am taking the mini pill and am still breastfeeding. I had no coplications and it does not reduce your milk supply.

Hi B.! I'm also on the "mini pill" and it has not had any effects on me whatsoever. I'm actually pleasantly surprised because I was expecting some sort of weight gain (which is just what we need after having a baby, right? lol) or headaches, or something.... but no! It's great. Good luck with it and congrats on your new little babe!

I was on the mini pill after my son was born and got pregnant again while on it and using condoms. My milk supply did dry up but not sure if it was because of the pill or if it was due to the new pregnancy. I had been on it for 4 weeks when I dried up which was about the same time I became pregnant again. Be very very careful this pill is not as effective as a normal bc pill and while bf does help it will not prevent you from getting pregnant again either. Personally I suggest getting an IUD if you are not wanting to get pregnant again soon, I will be doing this after my little girl is born at the end of July (at this point my son will be 11 months). Like I said be VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL.

I was on it while bfing for 10 mos with no problems. The only "side effect" is that, unlike bc pills that include estrogen, the minipill does NOT help with PMS--so your periods will feel just like they do when you're not on anything (which is bad news for me!). Also, it's a bit less effective than estrogen-containing pills--but still more effective than a condom.

I was on it with both my boys and it did not dry up my milk. When you stop breastfeeding get on a stronger pill. I never had any issues with it.

Hi B.,

I've taken the mini pill with all 3 of my nursed babies and NEVER had any problems. In fact, I like it better than most BC pills because I have very little if any side effects. You'll also have lighter periods and mine would only last about 3 days max.
Don't worry, it's very safe to take with nursing. Just make sure you take it at the "same time" every day so I would always set a timer on my phone so I wouldn't forget. The only way you'll get pregnant while taking it is if you take it irregularly or miss days. You should not have any problems with it drying up your milk. I BF all of my babies for over a year while taking the pill the entire time and never dried up!

Take care!

I have not personally taken it... but my friend dried up while on it. Sorry!

Good Luck!
