Hi All,
I am hoping you can help.
My son who will be 4 loves music and instruments. I know that the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) has opened and I was wondering if any of you have been? Is it child friendly? It does not seem that it is that child friendly on the web sight. Looking for your experiences visiting the museum.

Thanks!

I took my 4 1/2 year old son and his 5 year old friend there. They didn;t have a very long attention span when it came to the exitbits. The LOVED the room where they could play all of the instruments. And of course the gift shop was a hit. Overall they had a really good time, but if you want to see the entire museum go without the kids.

If I'm remembering correctly, I believe I was told they have a whole area set up for children to make or play instruments. I've never been, but even if it has no specific kid section, he still might enjoy it. Have fun!

I'm hoping to go there myself with the kids. Maybe you can call them and ask what they recommend.

Last month we went to the MIM museum for a school field trip with 6th to 8th graders. You can look at exhibits and you have to wear head ear phones that talks about the exhibit that you are looking at. There is absolutely no touching the exhibits but there is an area where it is hands on. That would be perfect for your 4 year old. They have plenty of instruments to try. I would say the museum would be of interest to 14 and up. The admission price is pricey if you are just going to for the hands on exhibit and to see if your child would have patience to wear the ear phones to listen to the exhibits. My guess that it would only last 10-15 minutes if comparing to my 4 year old. Otherwise I would highly recommend it for adults. It is very interesting if you like to learn about the history of music. Good luck.
