Milk Tolerance with Fevers

Was wondering if any moms out there had issues with their kids throwing up milk with a temperature. My daughter is 1 and ran a temp this past Sunday, and threw up whatever milk she got...it wasn't immediate after drinking either. She's not running a temp today, but i'm guessing that it's a combo of a tummy bug and teething. If anyone else has input with this that would be great!

Sometimes when they have fever their stomach cant handle milk. Try pedialite thats better on their tiny stomachs.

What you said seems right. If he had the touch of a belly bug or something didnt agree w/ him & he was drinking milk throughout the day then thats probly what it was. If he continues to get sick off from milk then i would stop him from drinking it cuz he might be lactose intolerant. Some kids develop it even later in life. Even some adults do too. My oldest cant have any dairy before she goes to bed or she will get a bad belly ache. Just keep an eye on it. Take care & good luck.

It's very common for little ones to do this. The dairly doesn't settle well in their tummies accompanied by a temp. I wouldn't be concerned, as long as generally speaking, she tolerates milk well. Hope she's feeling better.

I'm not sure about milk tolerance with fevers but my kids never drank milk when they were feeling sick. I don't eathier it churns my stomach. You might want to watch your daughter with how she acts towards milk, like if she doesn't want it anymore or it keeps making here sick, my oldest son developed an allergy to milk at the same age as your daughter.

K.,

How old is your daughter? Have you discussed this your doctor? I am a nurse. If your daughter has a fever I would not give her any milk products. Call your doctors office and talk to the nurse about other alternatives. This is not uncommon.

Have you given any thought to a possible milk allergy? My son threw up almost everyday for 6 weeks when he was 3 and we discovered he had problems with dairy. He didn't react to the allergy testing but was diagosed with lactose intolerance. He'd often have a fever while throwing up and then we really lethargic for a couple of hours.

Hope this helps!

I guess I'm not sure why, but I also stop dairy products when my son has a fever and usually wait 24 hours before reintroducing them.

My daughter has done the same thing. I have heard, not sure where, but not to give dairy products when they have a fever. I learned this the hard way and have live by it ever since and she has not thrown up milk again. I would just avoid all dairy products while she has a fever.

Dear K.,
My youngest son had similar problems. I took him to his doctor and he recommended an allergist. The results were milk, egg, and beef allergies. After adjusting his diet with Rice Dream (rice drink not soy) he is doing very well. I would definately take her to the pediatrition and ask him if this may be a possibility. I hope I may have shed some light on your question. Take care!

You are not to give a child that has a fever any milk product it will curdle in there tummys and they will throw it up everytime. So stay away from ANY MILK (yogurt, pudding, icecream and thing like that)

When my son had the rotovirus he seemed to throw up my breast milk a lot more then water. At the hospital they said not to give them milk when throwing up. He did have a fever, but usually when he has a fever without a stomach bug the milk won't make him throw up.
