Milk Supply After Stomach Flu

So the flu already went through our house and it was my turn about 3 days ago. Today is the first time I've been able to eat and drink normally. My milk supply has diminished I'm sure from being dehydrated. I'm just wondering will it eventually return to normal? My daughter has been nursing every couple hours and acting like she's hungry. I'm trying to drink lots of water so really hoping things will return to normal. Would love to hear about people's experiences. Thanks!

What can I do next?

It should bounce back... let her nurse as often as she wants, and resist the urge to give her any supplemental feeds.... her nursing frequency will help rebuild your milk supply.

When I was 6 weeks pp, I ended up with a really nasty strep bug, and then an outbreak of sores in my mouth... it was very hard to eat or drink anything for a week or so. I lost 11 lbs in 3 weeks. My supply did come back with the frequent nursing.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids as you are doing, and eat healthy.

It shouldn't take too long. A couple days or so maybe.
Best thing you can do now is to drink to get hydrated, to nurse on demand and to rest as much as you can.
You're giving your little one antibodies through your breast milk that helps protect her stomach.
It can be rough but it'll pass quickly.

It should bounce back. I got a nasty cold, and my supply dropped for about 3days total, including the time I was actually sick.

You can try drinking some Mother's Milk tea to boost your supply... Or take fenugreek capsules directly in addition to pushing fluids a bit. That should help some. :)

There is also a possibility that your DD is in a growth spurt, and is cluster feeding. It may not be a supply problem at all... Just an increase in demand from HER end of things.

She is nursing so often to increase your supply. Let her nurse when she wants and it will return to normal.

Keep nursing, and eating what you can, and drinking what you can. My DD was still nursing the Christmas we alllll got sick, and she probably did the best b/c she could nurse. The advice nurse said that breastmilk is considered a "clear liquid". DD nursed for almost another year after that. There is certainly hope to rebuild supply. You might also want to try liquids with some "content' so to speak, like soup and broth.

Yes, just keep drinking to rehydrate, rest, and keep nursing. Glad you are feeling better.
