My Son was 4months when he devoloped a rash all over. He is allergic to dairy & the best sub. I found for milk was Hemp milk( whole foods)- it has the high fat content that babies need for brain development. Also not to much suger like rice.
Hi,
I have to cut out all dairy and soy to see if that's what my 4 month old is allergic to. I have a list of key words from the doctor to avoid on ingredient lists and I've been to Whole Foods already (they were great!).
Does anyone have suggestions for on-the-go foods? Besides daily running around, I'm going to be traveling for 2 weeks over the holidays - I'll have access to a kitchenette all the time, but there will be long drives and plane flights too and I'll need food to carry around and suggestions for restaurants.
I have an appointment to meet with a nutritionist in 3 weeks, but by then we should know if this is working or not.
Thanks!
A.

Hi A.,
My son has dairy, soy and wheat allergies. It sounds overwhelming but you get the hang of it after a little while. He's 8 now, it is MUCH easier to find alternatives now than it was just a few years ago. He uses rice, almond or coconut milk in cereals. We absolutely LOVE the new coconut milk ice creams! His allergies are not severe so I don't have to watch him every single second and he's very good at choosing well when he's not with my husband and I. Whole Foods is fabulous, but you can find almost everything you may need at Stop and Shop, Shaws or Price Chopper.
All I can say is I always read the labels and if the allergy stays with him and he gets older, try to have the entire family switch to dairy free so he doesn't feel left out.
Hope this helps,
E. K. :-)
I am in the same boat! a few ideas to try:
Good luck. Here are a few suggestions:
packets instant oatmeal - avoid flavoring, use honey/maple syrup
nuts
dried fruit - apricots, raisins, cranberries
frsh fruit
carrots & hummus
fresh bake bread from freezer section Wholefoods
rice cakes
Back To Nature Oreos
sunflower / pumpkin seeds
Amys Organics Soups ( read labels)
some types of wheat thins
Hi A.,
I had to go off milk, soy, and whey for 6 months, and let me tell you, it was not fun. I don't even think that my daughter ended up having a "sensitivity" to any of them! I found a great recipe for dairy free granola bars that were super delicious. Pretty quick and easy to make. Here you go:

I also tried Rice Milk (or Rice Drink)and found I could barely tell the difference between that and regular milk. It's expensive, but I love milk, so it was worth it.
Enjoy!
Best,
- L.
A., is he allergic or intolerant. Try milk with lactaid or the lactose bacteria (good bacteria) in it. My son was intolerant and that's what I used. Check at your grocery store. I have seen one advertised on TV lately, but I can not remember the name of it. Years ago I had a hard time finding it, but I think now because they realize more people are milk intolerant, it is more prevalent. If your store doesn't carry it, call other stores in your area.
Once my son grew up and could take the lactaid tablets, he was able to drink regular milk as long as he took the tab first.
Good luck
Hempseed Milk is great, and is fine usually even if allergic to nuts. Has lots of Omega 3. You can get it enriched or plain or flavored. Similar to the Rice milk, you can find 6-packs of travel sizes.
I had to cut out all dairy for several months when my son was your infant's age and I was nursing. We both had terrible rashes and dropping dairy did the trick. Luckily, by taking lots of probiotics and dietary enzymes we were both able to enjoy dairy later on. I think I was off dairy for six months. I hope that your condition is temporary!
almond milk is awesome if there is no nut allergy.. Whole Foods is great, Trader Joe's or if you are on the north shore, My Low Carb Life on Rt 114 in Peabody is great too.
Try enriched rice milk, available at whole foods and in the organic food section of stop and shop and shaws. My son has a casein allergy and likes it. Also, something you may want to look into, if applicable: I have read that casein (milk ptotein) is naturally in all mammal milk--yes, including human breast milk. I am not too sure so you may wish to check w/your allerguist if you are breast feeding. My son was 2 years old(now eight and adopted at 8months) and on regular milk when we discovered the allergy. Good luck!!
enjoy life food brand. It is at whole foods.
Lara bars are great on-the-go foods. You get the most flavors at Whole Paycheck but even Trader Joes has a few. They are awesome! Dairy soy wheat egg free. Mostly made of nuts, fruit, and chocolate if you get that flavor.
Believe it or not, soy may be harder to avoid. It is pernicious. Subsidized american crop so it is the filler in everything. Scary to see once you start reading labels.
It will get easy with practice, and you'll be more nutrition aware. All the best!
