Hi!
I've been living here in Fayetteville off and on for quiet some time and have never known the schools to be up to 'par'. It seems that home school and private school is the way to go. In fact, we know a vice principal (public school) that home schools and another teacher that does too. I've heard that if you live on base then the DoD schools are good.
Personally, we homeschool and have homeschooled for 7+ years now (some here in Fay. and some out of state). Also, there are TONS of people that homeschool and several homeschool groups that have hundreds that belong to them (just here in this area). There are a lot of professonals in this area that homeschool their children AND a lot of military that homeschool their children.
Anyway, areas off base that are statistically good to live in (by school district); Jack Britt and Southview High School.
Happy Trails;)

I have been in the Ft. Bragg area for almost 8 years now...I do not live on post myself but have several friends who do as well as many friends who live all over the Fayetteville and surrounding areas. I would be glad to help you with any information I have about schools, activities and such for kids or yourself. I have an 8 year old and an almost 11 month old and am pregnant again so my experiences with things run the gammet. Please feel free to ask anything. Hope the move goes well.

I live on Pope AFB on Ft. Bragg. We've been here 3 years. I don't know much about housing on post but you could possibly be offered housing here on Pope since Ft. Bragg is taking over this base. Most of the families here are army now. There is an elementary school close to housing, it has grades Pre-K through 4th. I don't know much else about the school because my children are too young to attend. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will try to answer them. Best wishes on your move.

D.,
Welcome to the area in the near future. We live on Pope AFB, attached to Fort Bragg and really like the neighborhood. The schools in Cumberland County area sub par to say the least, so I recommend you take advantage of the DOD schools on base or post. The alternative is private school, but then you have to deal with the cost issue. DOD schools are free and provide a great learning environment for the military child. Pope Elementary is the smallest of the schools available but that is really an asset to myself and my husband, but you must live in Pope housing to go there. The community offers a lot of activities to do and Fayetteville is a city of history itself. Many of the things available or free or very reasonable. Their is a plethora of churches available, so if you are interested in an Assembly of God church that is laid back but spot on, let me know. Hope this helps!

I have heard terrible things about the new houses they have built on post, some are already falling apart and we're just built 1 year ago. Hello, D.,
Lots of military are coming to Fayetteville in the next months. There are so many resources to get the info you need. I would go to the Bragg web site and just search for all the info you need. Not knowing the school requirements for your child(ren), I would be hard pressed to recommend schools. We have a good system. All of our children graduated from high schools here and went to accredited colleges.
I am the wife of a retired Army officer. Many years of traveling around with a family (5 children) produced wonderful experiences and very flexible children. We spent a few months at Bliss in the Advance Course in the early 60's. It must have changed lots since then.
I don't know where you are from, but I hope your experiences at Bragg and in Fayetteville will be a positive part of your career. I know it is hard to be far from home and family, but I always developed a location "family" with the help of a church or chapel very quickly.
Best of luck on your move and Welcome to Ft. Bragg!

Hi D.,
I live on Fort Bragg in millitary housing. My house isn't nice. It has been newly renivated, like most of the other houses in my neighborhood. I have a girlfriend who's house can REALLy use a pick-me-up, but my neighborhood is very nice. there is plenty of space to run around in the back yard. The only complaint I have is that the rooms are a little smaller then what I am used to. I have a King size bed which takes up most of the space, but it also depends on the model of house you get. I guess theres lots of different styles and in another house we saw there was a room with a big bed and there was still room to put a chair and a TV.

My son is only 6 months old, so I don't know any thing about the schools, but I have a friend who's kids go to school off post in Hopemills. She said the schools are the best around.

Let me know if you have any questions. i would love to help out.

God Bless,
E.
