Mildew Smell

As great as it is my kids put dirty clothes in the hamper they are constantly putting wet towels and wash cloths in the hamper. Not really wet ones but these ones they have wadded up and thrown in there have this nasty mildewy smell. I have washed them, in hot, cold and anything I can think of. It is disgusting! What will remove it from towels safely???

What can I do next?

I had this same problem and i bought the Febreze for the washer i have found it just at walmart in my area you add it to the wash and it takes out all the bad smells, also color safe bleach (clorox 2 has a good one) to the wash also totally takes out any smell. Hope this helps!!

You can also use white household vinegar in place of fabric softener in your washing machine. I usually use 1/2 -1 cup. Doesn't bleach or harm fabric and there is no vinegar odor after they come out of the wash/dryer. Works for mildewy towells and swimsuits. Non toxic, no chemicals.

Tide with Febreeze works wonders with stinky stuff. Use a lavender scented dryer sheet to dry them.

I have had the same problem in the past. Get a separate hamper or basket for the towels. I wash the towels in hot water with baking soda and the rest of the stuff I wash in warm with baking soda. It should help the smell.

I never use fabric soften or detergent with sents(sp can't think right now) I do use the cheer gentle and clear and the clorox II unsented. It seems to get my clothes clean and baking soda is cheap and good for the environment.
It might be the water in the area, too.
