Mildew on Bike Trailer Canopy

Hi Moms~

Last fall, there was some water in our garage and a small amount of mildew stained the canopy on my bike trailer.. Any suggestions as to what I can use to clean it? The canopy is a bright yellow color, so I'm worried about "bleaching" the color out. Thanks for the tips!

I bought one used and it had mildew on it and I haven't been able to get it off. I tried several green cleaning products, liquid dishwashing detergent and Windex.

Hopefully someone here will have a solution for us!

I agree with Cathy, and use Oxi-clean. Make a paste and use a little elbow grease. Another thing that may work and you probably have it around your house is baking powder. Get the canopy damp with warm water. Sprinkle a little baking powder on and scrub. Might be worth a try. I have learned that it works in an enamel sink.

Baking soda in warm water and gentle dish soap like Dawn. A soft scrub brush. If necessary add oxy clean liquid to the mixture. Let dry outdoors in the sunlight (for a natural bleaching affect). You may have to repeat a couple of times but it's worth it.

Wet it & Forget it - is a product I hear about on WGN radio all the time. I think it's available at Ace or True Value stores...

Did you try a Magic Eraser? They have gotten out alot of things for me that even bleach couldn't. Good Luck

Try Oxiclean - the powder. I haven't tried it on mildew but man - that stuff gets out baby poop that has been sitting on clothing for days after I forgot about it. Make a paste out of the Oxiclean powder and make sure the area of the mildew is damp/wet and then rub in the paste and let it sit nice and thick on it for a couple hours then rinse with water. For me it has gotten out poop, red wine, chocolate - all the toughies. Good luck!
