More red meat and dark green, leafy veggies.

For the vitamin D? Spend some more time outside. Vitamin D comes from sunshine.

Get out the green veggies like spinach, kale, collard greens. Also calf's liver is good. Buy yourself an iron frying pan and cook in it. Get outside and enjoy the sun for a good 45 minutes a day. Heck you are in GA, just get outside!

Women tend to become anemic after having a period because of blood loss. If all else fails a multi-vitamin with iron will do or just iron (ferrous acid) pills.

Not a big deal and no it is not forever. Get yourself a good multivitamin with iron it. If it is a mild case then that should resolve it quickly. The good news is you have probably been very tired lately. The extra iron will likely resolve that too. The bad news is that iron can cause constipation. If the doc gives you a larger dose than in a multi you might want to add a stool softener or fiber to your diet, but do not take the fiber at the same time as the iron.

I've never been diagnosed with anemia, although I've been unable to donate blood in the past because my iron was too low for their qualifications.

You could try looking here for food ideas:

Also, iron pills can sometimes cause constipation. So ask your doctor about stool softeners or maybe see if there are iron pills that have a stool softener in them. Or just make sure you are getting enough fiber in your diet to help combat any constipation issues that might occur with taking the iron pills.

I have a vitamin D deficiency. Take vit D pills, but you have to take them with a calcium supplement to aid in absorption.

As for anemia, take it with your iron supplement, but you have to avoid calcium when taking them because it will inhibit absorption. Take them with a vitamin c and be sure to eat lots of fiber to help with any possible constipation.

Also, adding more fruits, veggies, dark leafy greens and such to your regular diet will help.

I do not need an Iron supplement, I am able to control it with diet. Green Veggies like others have suggested - Vit D and Calcium, red meat (all in moderation). When I was preggers I had to take Iron and I had to take it late in the day or I had issues - so if you feel funky after taking it try taking it later or in a different way.

No need for alarm. Women periodically will fall short on iron. Eat plenty of dark green veggies and that should do it. If that is all you have to worry about consider yourself lucky. The worst that can happen with mild amenia is that you get constipated taking the iron suppliments. That is why eating veggies is better. Try not to freak out so easy.

I have been anemic for many years, as long as I can remember, and I take an iron supplement, vitamin D and calcium, and I'm outside all the time. I don't eat green veggies or much red meat, though I know I should. Sometimes I run out of the iron supplements and forget to buy more, and then I feel really run down and tired, but as long as I'm taking them I feel pretty good, even though my bloodwork still shows that I'm anemic. Try eating the food suggested, and follow your doctor's suggestions, and you should be fine.

I just found out this year, well, back in December that I was very anemic, well, my doctor did put me on iron and vitamin D pills. I know "red meat" is high in iron, so I told my husband, we need to eat more steaks... we still eat maybe once a month, but it was worth a shot.
Search the internet.
My sisters also have a low iron deficiency. One of them has it so bad she has to have infusions done every 3-4 months, because her body will not absorb the pill form anymore. (warning, will turn feces almost black in color, do not be alarmed)
I also use the excuse to my family when I want to be lazy and lay on the couch that I'm very low in iron so I'm extremely tired, which sometimes I am tired, but most of the time, it's an excuse to be lazy... LOL

Do you have an iron skillet? Cook your meals in it when you can, especially acidic foods like tomato sauce.

Nothing to freak out about, just control it with vitamins and diet. I've found that the food with the highest iron content is grits.

Most women have mild anemia the week after their period. It's nothing to worry about. If it was sever it would be a concern. Foods rich in iron are green leafy vegetables, certain nuts, red meat. If you have any old cast iron pots or pans you can pick up iron by cooking your food in them (believe it or not)!

After an emergency C-section and tubal igation when my son was born I lost alot of blood and was anemic for a while after. The only symptom is being tired - but as a 40 yr old mom of a newborn adn a 3 yr old recovering from a c-section who could tell the difference!!!

I imagine that if your blood is drawn the week before your period you'd probably have a perfect iron count.
