Migraine!!!

I have suffered from migraine headaches forever ( it seems) but they stopped temporarily while I was pregnant...now that I am no longer pregnant but am still nursing the migraines have returned and I can't take the usual meds because I'm worried about them passing to my daughter (even though some of the research i've read says that they only pass in small amounts and if I wait 6-8 hours before nursing again it will no be a problem...i'm still not comfortable with this...). What are some safer or even more natural remedies for migraine headaches??? is there something I can change about my diet or lifestyle?? I already drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and minimize my caffeine intake...is there a supplement that my body needs that will help??? I'm desperate...I have such a terrible migraine right now that I can barely care for my kids....thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Hi K.,
I was a migrain sufferer since HS. Mine stoped after I started shopping at Melaleuca for my household needs. I removed things like Comet, Windex, spray cans, detergents, bleach, etc. Surprisingly Melaleuca's products were green and because of that, my migraines actually stopped. I was no longer inhaling the chemicals associated with the store brand products. It's been 4.5 years and no more migraines unless it's that time of the month, I may get one. But even with that, they are few and far in between. I'm not on any meds or anything.

Take a look at http://www.melaleuca.com/Introduction/ or visit www.saferforyourhome.com. I was truly amazed that all I needed to do was switch stores for better and safer products. Some people have a hard time believing this but it's my true personal testimony.

I have had great luck with acupuncture. I use it for migraines and everything else, from sore shoulders to cramps. I am currently undergoing a detox under my acupuncurists supervision and have never felt better. I suggest finding one that specializes in traditional chinese medicine and herbs. I think you could see a huge change.

Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon!

I had severe migraines at various points in my cycle and throughout early pregnancy. There is a homeopathic product called Gelsemium Homaccord made by the Heel company that truly works wonders. You can find it at www.smallflower.com - I am not sure how widely available it would be at natural food stores. My father-in-law is a medical doctor who also practices homeopathy and introduced me to this treatment.

I would also recommend getting an eye exam. Sometimes having the wrong script or placing too much strain on your eyes can result in migraine-like symptoms. This happened to me after the birth of my son as pregnancy can alter all sorts of things like eyesight, dental stuff, etc...

Good luck!
T.

I've heard from a few people that the Diamond Headach Clinic is wonderful. I am pregnant so thankfully NOT getting migranes, but I'm sure they'll start up again quickly.

A friend of mine went there and they told her to take an asprin a day, change her diet, and make a few other minor lifestyle changes...she swears by them and the headache clinic.

K. R,

I know how you feel, I felt the same way too but I found that my everyday household cleaning products were part of my migraines and also I wasn't taken a good vitamin and mineral supplement. That was 14 years ago and I haven't experience them since. I also like to mention that my daughter who was 2 1/2 years old at the time had upper respitroy problems and once I changed my detergent and softer she didn't have those problems. Now, that she is almost 18 she might experience seasonal allegies but nothing severe. If you want to learn more and contact me
via email so that I can introduce you to Safer, Better, and More Cost effective products (than Walmart), that will make a difference not only in your Health but the health of your family.

A friend of mine uses Migraine Ice? I guess it is some kind of strip, that you place on your head. I use a cold (and I mean COLD!) wash rag, and lay it on my head. I feel your pain.

Since you had relief from migraines during pregnancy- I would suggest looking into finding a gyne/doctor that could help you to balance progesterone and estrogen levels. Some studies have show a link between balanced hormones and migraines.
All you might need to do is use some progesterone cream!?
Good luck

With a technique called EFT you can interrupt the migraine~you know the 'lights' or funny feeling that precedes one? EFT is a process that involves you tapping on your own energy meridians (the same ones used in acupuncture) witjh your finger tips to balance or correct your energy. It has to do with the energy created with your emotions. My friend learned that before a migraine she had a pattern of self-critical thoughts. The beauty of EFT is you can try it on anything to feel better & it works!

I saw my chiropractor, a women and mom, who treats headaches. And she helped me get thru the painful stage where i had a horrible migraine that lasted two days, then adjusted me, did some therapy, recommended supplements specifically for me, looked at my diet/allergies, and we made changes step by step and i have been migraine free since

Eye strain turned out to be one of my husband's migraine triggers-- he finally got perscription glasses and it helped a lot. Have your eyes checked if you haven't recently.

Women that have migraines, then they stop during pregnancy are hormonal type of migraines. Sometimes migraines are due to food intolerances, for me I have a gluten sensitivity, when I got rid of gluten, the migraines were gone and if I eat anything with gluten, I get a migraine within 48hrs. If you are open to see a chiropractor and live in Chicago, I highly recommend Universal Health Institute at 8 W. Chestnut, ###-###-####.9090, Dr. Case is wonderful and have been to quite a few of her headache seminars. She does say to drink at least half of your body weight of water in ounces, massage (go to a massage school for discounted massages) and acupuncture will work well. There are safe vitamins you can take such as B6 and fish oils.

Let me know if you need more info, been there and boy it feels great to be migraine free, don't discount any food allergies or food intolerances.
