Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone on here has used or known of anyone that has used MaternityCard.com. It is supose to be a maternity insurance for woman that don't have insurance or maternity insurance and aren't on Medicaid. I am asking this because my period is late and I took one test already that came back negative. I am planning on taking another test today to make sure. I am scared now, because if I am, I have no insurance. My husband canceled it before our new insurance went into effect. Lucky me! Anyway, if you have any feedback for me I'd greatly appreciate it!

What can I do next?

Ok, just to let you all know, I took another test today and it too was negative. I am going to call my GYN tomorrow and make an appointment.

I havent heard of this but it would be interesting to know if its a good deal. I know that Medicaid for pregnant women is much easier to get then regular medcaid. You might try that route first and then if that doesnt pan out try the maternitycard.com thing and see if that works for ya. Either way good luck.

I have found through a similar experience (switching from my companies insurance policy to my husbands in the middle of my first pregnancy) that pregnancy is not a pre-existing condition and therefore is covered by the new policy even if you've become pregnant and gone to the OB a few times before the new insurace kicks in. You should be able to call the new insurace company and find out for sure.
Also if your home pregnancy tests are coming out negative, chances are your doctors test (which is the same test) will also. Its going to be best to wait a little while longer (I know waiting stinks when it comes to this, but if you're worried about being covered by insurance it might be best in the long run).
Best of luck and I hope everything turns out well!

J.,
I used AHCO. I paid something like $150 up front and then $99/ month for 12 months. I used a doc out of their network becuase I am in a small town. Also, once my son was born we had a realtively easy delivery and what they could get knocked off the price did not equal out to what I paid them.

They have a money back gaurantee but the whole process was more ttrouble than it was worth for me. I really got it in case we have a medical emergency and the birth was going to cost tremendously more. If your birth costs say $30,000 and they get 10% knocked off for you then it is worth it. try looking up AHCO online.... And I would look into your new insurance like the others said.

I took 2 tests, which came out negative and my son is 10 months old. :)

It may be a flase alarm but it always pays to be prepared in case it isn't!

Will your new insurance go into effect before you have the baby? The reason I ask is because I was pregnant and switched insurances and the new insurance didn't consider pregnancy a preexisting condition and paid for it anyway. You may have nothing to worry about. Of course, call the new insurance and verify. Good luck to you J.!!!

Hi-

I pretty much have the same thing to say.... I am due this May and did not have insurance until January. I ended up having to pay out of pocket just for the first couple mths. I didnt go to the Dr until I was either 8 or 10 wks (cant remember); and with my regular OBGYN I only had to pay like $50 a visit; the Ultra sound was discounted to like $180 and they just billed me. I now have insurance and the total i ended up paying over the first couple mths is around $400; which I didnt think was too bad; since it was billed and I just paid payments.

My first son was the same situation- I went to the health clinic for the first 4 mths and total spent there was $60. Thats with all the bloodwork and pap and everything. So I would look into that as well. THen had insurance and all was taken care of.

I was glad to have the insurance since I had a C- section and will most likely be having another one in 2 mths.

anyhoo- good luck
JEN

I also am pregnant with no insurance. I looked into maternity card in the begining but you have to pay them $700 up front and then the cost of your payments for copay. So for me that was no feesible. If you have the right income, you may qualify for pregnancy medicaid. You should go online and check it out.

I have not used that insurance, but have you checked if you'd qualify for maternity medicaid? The qualification criteria for it are much less stringent than those of regular medicaid, and it covers EVERYTHING. It covers all your doctors appoitments, all tests, every penny associated with delivery costs, etc... and then your baby also gets medicaid automatically for a full year after birth regardless of your economic situation. It may be worth looking into if you are indeed pregnant.

I was in the same boat when I was pregnant with my daughter. There was only 1 doctor in town that took it (Dr. Goodman-I live in Brunswick, GA) and thankfully she ended up being the doctor I wanted. It really isn't insurance, it's more like a 'discount' card. My insurance kicked in right after my first appointment and I didn't have any problems with them. You might want to call the new insurance company and find out how they deal with it. Good luck!
