Has anyone delivered with a midwife from Women's Healthcare Group, For Women Only, or Women's Care? Is there anyone you recommend? How was delivering with a midwife different? Thanks for your input!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the tips. Maybe if I go for another baby I will visit Patti one day, but the first few responses I had recommended Lindsey O'Neill and I already booked an appointment with her when the Patti recommendations came in. Anyway, I saw Lindsey yesterday and really loved her. She spent well over and hour talking to me about everything. Then a couple of L&D nurses at OPRMC told me they felt KCWC was the most conservative practice out of the three and least likely to do an induction or section unless they found it absolutely necessary. Now that's completely screwed with my head, but did make me feel better that my doctor may have taken the course she thought was necessary in my last pregnancy, and the midwife said she would probably do the same. I just wish my old doc would explain her decisions as Lindsey would, and have a better bedside manner! I will post the same update on my original question about whether I would be nuts to switch.

Hi L.,

I delivered with Woman's HealthCare Group and my midwife was Patti West. I loved her. I have only had one so I can't compare but she was great. She was willing to come to the hospital any time I went into labor...though I had the baby so fast she did not have time to get there! One of my friends had Patty at delivery and highly recommended her. I hope this helps!

I also recommend Patti West. She's so calm and laid back. I've been seeing her for several years. She was supposed to deliver my daughter, but she was out of town that weekend-figures! But, I wound up with an emergency C-section anyway. I have met with Julie over there and I think she was the one on call when Patti was out of town. I may have been overly moody the day I started having labor pains, but she seemed like I was ruining her weekend everytime I called her-waiting for the green light to go to the hospital. Just my experience though and you know how emotional a woman can get at that time!

I see Julie Gorenc with Women's Healthcare Group. She was the one who delivered my 3-year old, and will hopefully be there again to deliver my second in October. She is great, very soothing, and very open to anything you want. I chose to use her to deliver my daughter simply because she was who I had been seeing for my yearly exams for a few years, so I was already comfortable with her. I don't know how different she is from using an OB, but I do recommend her! Good luck.

I delivered with a midwife from For Women Only. She was amazing! Lindsey O'Neil was her name and I would definitely recommend her. This was my first child so I don't know what the doctor would have done differently but I don't think she could've done anything more to help me. My regular doctor at For Women Only is Gina Petelin and she's amazing too. I haven't met anyone in this practice that I didn't like. I hope this helps!

I too saw Lindsey O'Neil with FWO for the majority of my pregnancy and delivered at OPR and she was fantastic and easy going. I was so pleased with the experience that I am seeing her again with my second. I highly recommend her as well as the whole midwifery group there.

Yes L., I did deliver from Kathy Melton in that office, I had also seen Julie Gorenc...liked both, but stuck more with Kathy. No problems at all with them or the office. This was my 1st child, so can not compare it with a midwife-vs-non-midwife/Dr. delivery... But, it seemed fairly normal to me, she didnt come in anyhow until a couple hours before I had the baby anyhow, the nurses do most of the check at first. But, I would definitely reccomend Kathy, she is very non-judgmental and to the point, and very much a "your choice" attitude as far as your delivery goes.... she told me it was "my party" so I could choose everything.... (meds, no meds, epidural or not, etc. etc. etc....)

I had no issues with the staff, nurses either at WHG.
Let me know if you any other questions!

Patti West at Women's Healthcare Group has delivered all 3 of my children. She's wonderful! She's very supportive of any choice you make - medicated or non-medicated, induce or not induce, etc. She has a very quiet, calm presence and I've had nurses at the hospital rave about how well she is liked over there. I highly recommend her!

I also see Kathy Melton at Women's Healthcare Group. She did not deliver my son, but she's the only one I've seen since my son's birth (4 years ago). She remembers me even with a year in between visits. I'd highly recommend her!

I didn't have a midwife deliver my babies, but I did see the midwives at For Women Only after the birth of my first, and actually had to leave that practice because I felt that they failed in their diagnosis and treatment of some issues related to breastfeeding after that pregnancy. I had a yeast infection in my breasts, and after several visits with them dismissing it, misdiagnosing it, then treating it with the completely wrong treatment, I had to do my own research to figure out the correct treatment. They then (sort of reluctantly) followed through with that treatment, and it finally got better, but that experience definitely soured me on the midwives in that practice. I now go to Womens Healthcare Group, and while I've only seen Drs there, I've had friends who have had midwives from that practice at their delivery, and I've heard only good things about them. I've been very happy with the Drs, as well (just in case you do end up needing care from an MD).
