We'd like to do a day trip this year to introduce our young kids to skiing. Would love your recommendations on where to go.

A friend suggested Timber Ridge/Grand Geneva since they have skiing, sledding and a water park. A nice way to try it without having to spend the whole day/weekend skiing.

Sounds like a good choice. I haven't skied there, but the water park is a lot of fun!

In Wisconsin as well, Cascade Mountain has nice trails for beginners and tubing too. I know a lot of people come from Illinois to ski there.

My family and I have gone to Paoli Peaks in Indiana for three years (we didn't go last year because I was pregnant and for some reason my husband wouldn't let me ski.) Our three older kids love going there and were sad when we didn't go last year. They've already started asking when we can go this year. My husband is a terrible skier but he enjoyed going there because the beginner slope is very easy and the family slopes are good, too. Two years ago there was a hotel that was going to be opening up a water park. I'm not sure if that happened or not.
Also, the employees have always been helpful and polite.
