There is a store called Homeeducators Resource off of Main Street in Lewsiville, close to the Sack n Save. They carry a variety of science items. Good Luck!
Hello Moms~
I'm looking for a microscope for my daughter who is turning 8 in a couple weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for ones they would or would not recommend? There are so many variables I've found in my research, and it's like reading a foreign language to me! Thanks for your help!

I had one when I was 8 and I loved it! I would look at bugs, leaves, hair strand... a lot of them also come with slides where an object is already permanently placed on it, like a cell or something.
I don't think getting a high tech or expensive one is something to worry about. Just get one with a few good options, that has a little bit of lighting, some predone slides and some blank slides so your child can make her own.
After this one, if she is really interested, maybe in a couple of years (since she will know more about what she likes/dislikes about it) you guys can pick out a great one together.
Hello T.,
I have been a science teacher for secondary (6th -12th) grades for 14 years, but have a 5 year old and I recommend the Discovery Kids web site for a lot of science stuff. Here is a website that you can look at...search for "microscope kids" and it will show a choice. It looks good...
I also highly recommend the following site for raising butterflies, lady bugs, and tadpoles (we have done all several times).
Best of Luck,

I recommend a Brock Magiscope. It's a good, durable, basic microscope. It has few moving parts so there are not a whole lot of pieces to lose or break. It's also covered by a lifetime warranty. They will replace or repair it for free if it ever breaks.
We love ours!
You can usually pick them up on Ebay for 1/2 the retail cost (or less; used of course). That's where we got ours. Then we outfitted it with new lenses and extras from Teacher's Source online catalog (slides, field holster, surface adapter, and carrying/storage case).
Here's some links:

BTW my daughter has dropped her magiscope over a dozen times and it hasn't even dented!
