Do any of you take the Micronor (progestin only) birth control pill? I am thinking about switching to it (I am on Yasmine right now). The only reason I am thinking about switching is to stop taking Estrogen. The fewer hormones the better, right? However, I just googled Micronor and it listed a lot of side effects. Thank you!
Beware of progestin only. I took it in a natural form and put myself into a menopause state. Balance is everything.
I'm taking progestin only (generic version of Micronor - Camila) due to nursing. So far I haven't had any issues. I'm 29 with a 6 m.o., if that makes a difference.
My best friend was on Micronor while she was nursing her then 11 month old daughter (she wanted the reduced level of hormones because of the nursing). Oops - she got pregnant with her now 4 month old daughter. Be careful if you switch!
S., A couple things you need to know about a progesterone only pill is that it is less effective as a form of birth control and is very time sensative (if you miss a pill even by an hour, you may ovulate). In my 10 years of practice I have had many OB patients who got pregnant while taking Micronor or generic form of it. In addition to the side effects you read about, it does have it's own risks. Many sources list a 10% risk of having an ectopic pregnancy should one conceive while taking progesterone only pills. I hope that helps in your decision-making process. Micronor is only good if you're exclusively breastfeeding. Otherwise, it's not very effective. My doctor was very adament that when I stopped breastfeeding that I needed to go on a different pill or method.
I take micronor (generic) when I'm nursing and haven't had any problems (I have four kids). But I took it for a little while when I wasn't nursing and spotted all the time--very annoying.
