Metronidazole for 3 Year Old - How to Get Him to Take

Has any one had any experience with this and have any suggestions to get my son to take this? We tried adding chocolate syrup but it is a complete battle and he spits it out on us. I really want him to get better but don't know what else to do. We have been giving the acidophillis tabs as well that is helping but he really needs the medicine too.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Tried the pudding but he told me it was "ucky" so I even tried adding m&m's to the pudding and he wouldn't eat it. Next we'll try milkshake but not confident it will work. Calling doc tomorrow. Pills are working and found Kefir to give him but not sure if it is enough. He did manage to take medicine at school (no idea how or why) so hoping they can get him to do it Monday.

I believe this stuff is Flagyl if I remember correctly from my old vet tech days.
It tastes SO bad. We used to tell pet owners to roll it in some butter to coat it so it wouldn't taste so bad. Not too sure about crushing it up, it taste that bad. That it if it's a pill form. If it's a liquid I would suggest maybe some orange juice, something tart would help hide it.

use a syringe & put it in the back of his mouth by the cheek just squirt a little at a time so that it goes down & isnt enough to spit out, it might be a battle but if you put it in the back he wont taste it as much...also i am not above bribing my kids when it comes to terrible tasting meds, suckers work for mine : )

chocolate milkshakes... blend it in and dont let him see you put it in... he probably wont even taste it because his mind already associates the taste of chocolate shakes to be good and will see getting a shake as more of a treat and less of a punishment.

If it is a pill crush it and put it in pudding, if it is liquid, you probably still can put it in the pudding.

I'm not familiar with this medication. I would call the pharmacy and see what they recommend to help the taste. My daughter had to take preventative antibiotics from 1 - 4 years old for urinary reflux. We mixed the liquids and then the crushed tablets with spoonfuls of ice cream, applesauce or anything soft and a little sweet. She knew she had to take her medicine every night, but she also knew she'd get a couple spoonfuls of something good to go with it so it wasn't such a fight.

I say go with the milkshake or pudding, something he already enjoys! I took this medicine aka Flagyl about a month ago and it was the worst tasting medicine ever. I feel your son's pain. It was down right horrendous.
