Hi ladies,
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18, then my doctor put me on birth control pills to regulate my period. Other than the occasional acne, I do not have any other PCOS symptom. I recently bumped into a book which suggested that women with PCOS were prescribed Metformin. Although, I do not have diabetes it said that many women take it to control other PCOS symptoms.
.
Are there any PCOS sufferers, who are currently taking Metformin without having diabetes? Any information is highly appreciated! ;-)
Thank you ladies! I will do some more research as well as speak it over with my doctor. :-)

My daughter has PCOS and the first thing her doctor (a specialist) did was to prescribe metformin. No, she is not diabetic, but is at risk for developing it in the future.
Many women with breast cancer take this off label-and there are major studies being conducted right now which hold a ton of promise. I think it does something with your hormones which may also be how it helps PCOS.
Hi, earlier this year my gyne diagnosed me with PCOS as well. He put me on the birth control pill to regulate my periods. He also gave me a prescription for Metformin for it. I do not have diabetes but I am suppose to take the Metformin to help with the PCOS. I don't have any real symptoms of PCOS other than the irregular periods. I took the Metformin for a few weeks and felt completely exhausted and light headed at times. I called the pharmacist and was told that when taking Metformin I should not miss any meals. I stopped taking it because of how I was feeling, but I recently made an appointment to see my gyne again and start all over with it. My periods are still irregular and I think I don't have a choice but to take it to help me.
There is tons of info online regarding women who take Metformin for PCOS without diabetes just google it if you want to know more.
After I was done having kids, my Endo put me on a combination of Metformin and Spironolactone for my PCOS. Spironolactone is known to cause birth defects, so it cannot be taken until you know you don't want any more kids. I did have gestational diabetes twice, but as of now am not diabetic. My main symptoms are abdominal fat, facial hair and thinning hair on my head. I like to call it pudgey old man syndrome ;) The meds have helped a ton. I have been able to maintain a reasonable weight, and no longer have 5 o'clock shadow. Only shaving my face once a day is a huge improvement for me! Good luck!
I have PCOS with no diabetes and I take the pill to regulate periods. I took Metformin to aid in getting pregnant-but my Dr never suggested it while being on the pill.
