My body is being funky too. Even though I nurse on demand, full time and all that, I still get my period back. I bled for a few weeks after birth then stopped. About a month later I had, what I would call anyway, a fairly normal period. Ten days later I bled again. Then a month later, last week actually, I had another period. It was longer than what used to be normal for me, but it was definitely a period. Anyway, we'll see what happens next time.
Pregnancy is like resetting the cards. You might as well pretend you're a tween having your period for the first time. Your body just needs to figure out what the new normal is going to be.
Unless you're bleeding a lot, filling a pad in an hour, or you don't stop bleeding for a month, you're just fine. That's what my doctor told me anyway.
Hope that helps!

I had the same thing happen to me. Only it was the opposite. After I stopped bleeding, I hadn't had another cycle for 3 months. It was kinda freaking me out. So I went and talked to my doctor and he said this usually happens. (Even though it didn't happen with my first 3 children). Every woman is different. Pregnancy screws everything up in your body. Sometimes it takes a while for it figure out where it's supposed to be. At least that's how my doctor put it, and it made a lot of sense. But yes, every woman is different and some might have frequent cycles or none at all or really long cycles or really short cycles. It just depends on the woman. Just be patient with your body, and it will catch up with you. Hope this helps.

With my last one I had almost 5 1/2 weeks of bleeding (lightening until it stopped), then nothing until my son was one (he nursed). After that, my body went insane and in the past 8 months I have not had a regular cycle--either going six weeks without bleeding, then bleeding for two, or bleeding for one week, nothing for a few days, then bleeding for another week. My doctor has been playing with my pills, but I finally stopped taking them (we want another). Without pills I had something closer to a regular cycle.

If you are starting up normal activity like exercise or heavy housework, that can also make your recovery take longer. I started working out after six weeks and was chasing a toddler around, so my recovery took a bit longer after baby #2.

If you are bleeding a LOT (ask your doctor what that means for you) then call. It could be a complication. If it is just like a regular period at this point, then just sit it out. It can take a very long time to be regular again and "regular" might not be the same thing. Make sure you're eating healthy and getting enough iron. I was getting very weak from all my bleeding and had a hard time getting through the day and ended up taking a supplement.

It depends. Everyone is different. Are you breastfeeding? I bled for 8 weeks and then just got my first period at 12 weeks and it was very light and didn't even last a week.
