Hello,

Okay, so i think im starting to have irregular menstrual cycles. I've always had a regular menstrual cycle....so this worries me just a bit. I'm 32yrs old, healthy, so i missed my period in october and then it came in november.....my period was suppose to come december 5 and it is now the 21st so im thinking its probably going to skip another month. My question is, is this something that i should be worried about and go see the doctor???? Please, if anyone has experienced this or has any advice, it would be much appreciated. thanks

Have you been stressed out lately? Sometimes, stress is all it is, and you are so young! It's likely to be nothing to worry about.

If you are not pregnant then you might have just had an anovulatory cycle. Sometimes we have them as we get older. I'd see the doc though and have them run a thyroid test, that can also cause it and is common as we get older.

our cycles are so delicate. it requires the right balance of hormones and any change in our lifestyle can throw it off... you could be pregnant, but if you didn't mention it ... doesn't seem like it's something you are considering. Also, because you missed one month, then had it and now it seems to be occurring again ... it just doesn't add up.
These things can affect our cycles:
1. weight gain/loss
2. stress stress stress
3. caffeine
4. sleep
5. exercise (lack therof or change)
6. wrong nutrients... such as too much carbs (this is important if you are or have PCOS)
7. pregnancy
8 could be entering in to perimenopause early
9. hormones in our foods
10 our hormones being off
11. prescription medications INCLUDING the pill

If you have a doctor you might want to get some blood work done... but i don't recommend going on the Pill as it messes everything up as well and also depletes your body of necessary nutrients.

Check out the book "What your Doctor may NOT tell you about perimenopause" by Dr. John R. Lee. It's an older book, but it still has a lot of good info in it & you can research more details, once you have looked at some of the ideas in it. Of course, I'm just assuming you've already checked the obvious & have peed on a stick....good luck

It could be a number of things that aren't serious. If you're really concerned, visit your gyno. It kinda sounds like pre-menopause. My Mom started pre-menopause in her late 30's, but husband's Mom actually started when she was 21! So, it happens at different times for everyone. Best to visit your doctor because she'll be able to ask you questions about other possible 'symptoms'.

Hi,

A under-active thyroid can be to blame. Your periods will stop or be very light, you'll gain weight, and be very tired. Or it could be that you are pregnant. That happened with our last child. We had NO idea I was pregnant because I had had a period (although light), but I didn't feel right. When I did the test I thought I was 6 weeks along, but it turned out I was THREE MONTHS along. Imagine the shock of seeing a little body there when all you expected was a tiny blob. So I would check with a home pregnancy test first, and if that is not it, do some research about hypothyroidism. Very easy to treat if it is. Good luck.

Cycles definitely change as you get older. What was once normal for you will change to a different normal. Keep track of it on paper to show your doctor and then have the doctor check it out to be safe. It could just be normal changes in your body or it could be from your diet/exercise or stress or if you're taking certain medication. I'm 46 now and mine has been changing over the last 3 years - every 3 weeks then skipping 2 months, etc. I just skipped 4 months but the doctor says I'm fine but my hormone levels are dropping. It's probably nothing to worry about but check it out so the doctor can confirm.

Good luck!

Probably not a big deal at all, but....... If you have any other irregular things going on it may be a clue to a hormonal issue that you may need to take a look at. Weight gain or loss, hair loss, depression, decrease in sexual desire, changes in your skin and lots of other things could be the result of hormone problems that you don't have to endure. Next time you are at your doc's office (regular family doc or obgyn) have blood drawn and have all of the hormones and lipids looked at. Some women (me) choose to deal with the imbalance with hormones but there are also homeopathic options that are very successful for many people. My issues started with CRAZY periods then 6 months later I gained 20 lbs in about 6 weeks and I've never had yo-yo weight. In the mean time my dry skin that I was ignoring because I had other stuff to do turns out to be severe plaque psoriosis and I look like I bathe in battery acid!!! It is very sexy....
I'm sure it isn't a biggie but the 2 warning signs in young women that something might be amiss is rapid weight change and menstrual irregularity.

I'd go to the doctor just to find out what's causing it. I've always had irregular cycles. Believe it or not, the thing that has finally regulated them for me was going through chemo last year. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone, but at least something in my life is now predictable.

Whether or not you should be worried? Not sure. But, I'd call the doctor's office, let them know what's going on, and let them be the guide. They can be wrong, though. They told me my water hadn't broken with my daughter when it had, and they told me initially not to be too concerned about the pea-sized nodule in my collarbone (I guess cancer wasn't a concern?)

Hey K.,
Have you been under any stress lately? Stress can completely alter your cycle.
It might be a good idea to make an appointment with your ob/gyn to have your hormones checked and to get a check up. Varying hormone levels can affect your cycle greatly (as in during premenopause) as well as cysts, etc. If anything, if everything appears to be clear, than you can at least rest your mind about this issue.
My cycle got a bit erratic the last few years (starting at age 37), with my periods only lasting a few days and the days lengthening between each cycle. However, I had other symptoms to go along with my cycle such as: vaginal dryness, horrible mood swings, no sex drive, night sweats, etc. If you are experiencing any of these other symptoms you may be experiencing the symptoms of premenopause.

Hi, I was alsway perfectly regular...ALWAYS & when I turned 36 my periods started to become irregular. They were never what they once were, sometimes late, sometimes early, heavy bleeding or light & as time went on they were more whacked! My paps are always normal. My doc said it is perfectly normal. I am now almost 50 & have not had a period for a year. I guess I shut down shop!!! My sister was 47 when she was finished, It just comes earlier for some of us but If I were you I would get a check-up because it will give you peace of mind!

Maybe you're pregnant. Even if you take a home test and it comes back negative take another one but definitely go to the doctor. Some women have what they think are periods during their pregnancies. Good luck.
