J.K.
I'm not in that stage just yet, but thought I'd pass along something. My MIL just stopped her period too, no other symptoms. She thought it was weird too. Maybe you are just lucky!!
This is a question for any "older" moms on here. I am 52 and stopped having periods about 6 months ago, but not any other menopausal symptoms. How about you? I always thought I'd have hot flashes and mood swings! Makes me wonder if I'm really past menopause or not. I appreciate hearing your experiences. Thank you!

Well, they say you arent past menopause until you go an entire year without a period. I havent had one in two years. From about 48 to 50 I would go months without a period and then all of a sudden have one that last 10 or more days without warning. It was a crappy 2 years, but had no hot flashes. Now that I don't have a period at all I do get night sweats and insomnia a lot. Dont know how long it's gonna last... but I'm pretty sick of it ;)
My mom never had any menopausal symptoms at all, maybe you will also be one of those lucky ones.
Hi Lucky-
I am also 52...and have been period free for almost 2 years now. Prior to that, my periods became a little sporadic...no period one month...the two lighter periods in another! Since I began menstruation, I was always regular as clock work, or preggers, or lactating!
I still get the occasional hot flash...and have rather enjoyed them...especially in winter! lol
In terms of mood swings...well...I have had a rough few years overall in my life. I do not feel I have had 'mood swings' related to menopause per se...my kids might say otherwise...
My mom went thru menopause when I was a teen. She SWEARS she never had a 'mood swing'...I recollect otherwise.
I think god has a sense of humour...a wicked one...lol Putting a mom thru menopause at the same time there is typically a teen around with raging hormones as well! lol
I have some weight gain recently. I think my metabolism has slowed down a bit. I plan to make time for more working out.
I still...even now get a hot flash.
But the sex is better than ever!!
So it all evens out!
Best Luck!

Almost forgot...MY BOOBS CAME BACK!
Some of it is related to weight gain I am sure...but I have not had this much cleavage since I missed a breast feeding session!
Not there yet but purely unscientific data, the women who have all the issues in my office are all the women who have issues with damn near everything. It started making me think that some of this is all in their heads, ya know.
In my office building there are seven different climate zones all controlled by the people that use the space. I had to walk from one end to the other and joked I just went through menopause. Ya know, hot, cold, hot, cold.... One woman ripped me a new one that it was no joking matter!!!!!!!! rarrrrrr!!!!! I considered hiding under my desk. Then again she will rip anyone for anything, makes me wonder if our office manager is just too afraid to fire her.... Yikes!
Yeah I know, not very helpful but hopefully will make you laugh....
I've heard you're not really there until you've been period free for 12 months.
My sister was Surprised after 9 months in the middle of a tropical vacation!
Maybe you should knock on wood or something
Everyone's experience is different. I think you are technically at menopause after 12 months of no periods, at least that's when the fertility is done. Nutrition can also have an effect on symptoms. Personally, I breezed through menopause without mood swing, and my night sweats were drastically reduced and then eliminated once I got on the right supplement (no drugs, thank you!). The symptoms can occur at different times - some women don't get the hot flashes, but do get sleep interruptions and acne. Some get the mood swings and nothing else. Still others get problems with bone density - that's the one to watch out for. Mine has absolutely improved, again, thanks to a women's nutritional product. So, enjoy what you aren't having! There's no hard and fast rule.
You ARE lucky!
I've been in peri-menopause it seems like forever but really about 5 years.
Hot flashes and night sweats, hair thinning slightly, harder to lose weight, increasingly irregular periods (longest time between so far is 51 days and rarely, occasionally shortest is 2 weeks, bleeding can vary a lot from very light to sometimes very heavy).
I've never been particularly moody or had bouts of PMS and that hasn't changed, thank goodness.
I turn 50 end of this year and I'm more than ready for it to cut it out already, but my ob/gyn says this could go on for several more year.
Some women are in peri-menopause for 10 years before it stops.
I read somewhere that only about half of women have hot flashes when approaching menopause. Based on the stories we hear, you'd think everyone of us was guaranteed this symptom!
I am 50 and still have regular periods, have had occasional mild hot flashes (just feel warm, not sweating or red-faced), and a couple episodes of night sweats. I've noticed during my PMS week that my regular symptoms are sometimes a bit more noticeable (but I've always had VERY mild PMS symptoms).
I exercise vigorously (running and karate) 5 - 6 times a week and have a reasonably healthy diet, which is supposed to minimize symptoms.
My mother had regular, although reduced to every other month, periods until she was 58. Then she was killed by a drunk driver, so I don't know how long that would have continued. So, if genetics matter, and my doctor says they do, I could have quite a few years left before true menopause.
Doctors consider women through menopause (unable to conceive) after 12 consecutive months with no period. I've talked to women who have gone 10 months, then have one period, which resets the counter!
