Menopause at 26???

I am freaking out a little bit, it has been since August since my last period. I am on no birth control. In fact my husband and I are trying to have another baby. The doctor did some blood work about 2 months ago and said things came back normal. Could I possibly be in menopause already? Any ideas how to get things flowing again??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for making me feel better about freaking out. I was without a period for 13 months. However one week after I finished my degree I started spotted and then finally started my period! I was SO happy

Probably not menopause. However, it could be a whole host of other minor things. You should talk to your doctor since there are a few simple things to do that will get everything working again. I had problems for years and then discovered that I had a small non-cancerous tumor on my pituitary gland. I've been taking medication for 10 yr and am now super regular. I also now have a 3 yr old son. So my point is, don't stress this. Probably a minor medical problem that you need to talk to your GYN about and having another baby is probably very doable for you. Good luck.

Don't worry, I'm sure it's just a fluke. A blood test probably would have let the doctor know if menopause was happening. You can always go for a second opinion to ease your mind. Try drinking a toning tea , like raspberry leaf. There is a female toning tea by traditional medicinals that is great. You can find it with the teas in the natural foods section of your grocery store. Just don't drink too much if you think you are pregnant, as it can stimulate the uterus. Also, know that stressing can contribute to ammenoria(missed period), so try and relax, maybe do some yoga. Hope you feel better soon.

Seems to me that if there was something wrong your doctor would have said something. Did he/she not give you any ideas what could be wrong? Did he do any ultra sounds to look for any abnormalities?

Hi J.. I doubt it is menopause, but I wouldn't totally rule anything out. I would discuss that possibility with you OBGYN. I would not recommend birth control to anyone ever. I am so against it. I tried several different pills and they all made me so emotional and moody. Once I bled for a month straight on them. The doctor tried to say that was normal. I don't think so. I know that stress can cause you to miss a period. I've missed a month before here and there before. If you have been on birth control before it could cause wierd things to happpen. Good Luck with conceiving. R. Mckee

I would think the bloodwork would have shown something if you were menopausal already.

Are you very thin? If you don't have enough body fat that can cause you to stop your period.

Maybe you could ask your dr. to put you on the pill for a few months just to get your cycle regulated for awhile. Then you can go off the pill and start trying. Just be sure to wait a month after you go off (have 1 period) before you start trying. You are more likely to have twins if you get pregnant as soon as you go off the pill. I got pregnant the first month we tried with my son and the second month we tried with my daughter. Good luck!

If you are trying to get pregnant, go see a fertility specialist ASAP. I had all kinds of strange stuff going on with my cycles and was diagnosed with PCOS, even though I was not overweight. My husband and I tried for over 3 years to get pregnant-- tried Clomid, IUI, and some other drugs. I finally got pregnant when I started taking Metformin for the PCOS-- first cycle I was on it, I got pregnant. I am now expecting our first baby in September. Good luck!

I agree with Tracy, go on the pill for a bit (maybe 3 months) and try to get your cycle started and regulated then go off. The same thing happened to me and I went on the pill for 3 or 4 months then stopped, waited a month or so before we started trying and voila, another baby. Try not to get stressed over it and stay healthy.

good luck

I actually experienced this problem when i was trying to get pregnant with my first child. I had gotten off my birth control and went for more then a year before having a period and then they were VERY spiratic. Anyway, what ended up happening for us was that I started taking clomid, which is a very low fertility drug that started me ovulating. I think I wasn;t ovulating like I should. But if he said that the bloodwork came back normal, ask if that means you are ovulating correctly. If not, maybe they can give you some clomid. After trying for 2 years (maybe a little more) We got pregnant after only one month on clomid. I would swear by it for couples having a difficult time conceiving! Hope everything works out for you!

Oh yeah! Now everything is fine and I have two beautiful baby boys, one is 3 and the other is 1. I got pregnant with the youngest thinking I would still have problems conceiving and boy were we wrong! Good Luck!

Honey, chill out. You are not in menopause. Even though you are on the pill, you could still be pregnant. I would go to WalGreens and get a test and rule that out first of all. Second, if it shows you are not pregnant then ask yourself if you are under stress. Sometimes that can cause a period delay. Then, next question to think about, have you always been regular or what is the norm for you and your body? Sometimes environmental reasons keep you from having periods every month. Rule all those things out before you freak out.

Hi J.,

I have an almost 26 year old daughter that hasn't had a period in 10 months. They finally did an MRI after all the other tests and it showed a pituitary tumor. She will have surgery on Feb 12 to have it removed. Not saying that is what is happening but I would think that further testing should be done to see if you have anything along those lines.

Good luck hon.
