Hi P.,

My brother also has Meneire's. As I recall, it wasn't a quick or simple diagnoisis, he saw ENT specialists,I can't recall if he saw a neurologist also, and it took a little while to diagnose it. He was treated with different medications, and eventually had surgery, which has helped. Try not to get yourself worked up over what the doctor 'thinks' it is, get a definitive diagnosis, and go from there. In the meantime, do what works to stay dizzy-free, if possible. This sounds like it is something manageable.

My husband has it. He is taking a water pill because the dr. said body fluids fluxuating would trigger it. From what I have read, Nutrasweet is a big trigger and diet coke was his favorite beverage. When it hits, he has to lay down for a couple of hours because it wears him out.

I am going to keep reading your responses too so I can learn as much as I can on this.

Thanks for posting it.

I don't know anything about Menieres, but my best friend has occasional attacks of vertigo, and believe it or not, her dr. prescribed xanax, and that gets rid of it...

Hi P.,
My brother has Meneires. There isn't a cure only ways to control it. He also takes water pills and he says that caffiene effects it. So he tries to watch what he is eating and drinking and I think thats all he can do. Good luck.

P.,

I have vertigo at times and have noticed that if I take an antihistamine to dry up my sinuses and ears the dizziness will subside. Years ago I would have dizziness for 5-7 days (a couple times a year) and my doctor at that time told me that it was a virus and perscribed an antihistamine to dry me out. The doctor told me to let it run it's course and it would subside in 5-7 days. J.

P. I don't have Meniere's, but my husband does. He was diagnoised before we were dating and it had gone into remission by the time we had. It flaired several years after we were married. He has had a surgery to help control it. The doctor he sees is at the Michigan Ear Institute and is very good (at least in my opinion). He started out on the meds to control it (yes a dieretic was one of them). Unfortunately in his case this wasn't enough.
There several options if that proves to be the case for you as well. But my husband had many test before we came to the need for one of those options.
He had what is called a sack (sp) decompression surgery. He is still on the dieretic. But rarely has attacks any longer. He takes Valium sometimes if he does have an attack, usually this makes him sleep. Sleeping it off seems to work for him.
He had a link about Meniere's on his web page a while back, he hasn't maintained the page much as of late due to time but I will include the link here for you.

the link is to the left on the page.
Good luck!

Google "Meniere's" + gluten and see if there's a connection--you may want to ask for a blood screening for celiac sprue.
