I am wondering what others have used to treat the brown discolorations from pregnancy ~ melasma. My son in now 9 months and the discolorations haven't really faded. I have some brown spots on the bridge of my nose and some dark discoloration on my upper lip (eek it looks like a mustache shadow!!) that I am very self-conscious about. I read that cream with hydroquinone it is a treatment ~ has anyone used this kind of cream? If so, where did you get it? Did you use anything else? Any advice appreciated!

What can I do next?

I had these types of spots about 12 years ago (not pregnancy related) and used a cream called alpha-hydrox. (Or something similar)--I got it as Walmart. It worked great. My co-worker (about 5 or 6 years ago) had very noticable "masks" from sun damage--used the same cream--great results, but she used the cream faithfully as directed for several weeks.

Hi, H.!

I'm a consultant with Arbonne International and we just launched a new line of products for just this issue. I haven't tried it yet, but I've bought it and I am just waiting to get some good "before" pictures before I start. I've heard great things about it. It is absorbed into your skin and it breaks down the melatonin. If you'd like to try it or hear more about it, let me know.

H.- I had the same issue. Lovely "mustache" looking discoloration and some spots on forhead and cheeks made my face look "dirty". I got hydroquinone from my dermatologist as a prescription, worked ok but you have to use it religiously for months to see results. I just had my 2nd baby and am nursing -so I won't be able to use it again until I'm done because it's absorbed into your skin. Also, make sure you are using good sunscreen on your face- the sun will continue to darken those spots. I wonder how the Arbonne produts work- I'll have to check it out.

I sell Mary Kay and we have a toner that is specifically for age spots and pregnancy spots. Also works to treat sun damaged areas or freckles. It is called Timewise Even Complextion. You can go to the Mary Kay website to learn more about it or contact your beauty consultant. www.marykay.com

Hi H.! I don't know if you want to use this remedy but my friend used rubbing alcohol applied on her skin with a cotton ball. She had melasma really bad on her neck and it took it away. Now....I don't know how badly it will irritate your skin, so if you do it....use a really good moisturizer afterward!
