We use it and love it. It does seem like it costs a lot of money, but that is for the people who don't switch over their households. We don't use any cleaning or laundry products that aren't Melaleuca. I also use the Nicole Miller makeup that is great. I used to use Lancome and paid out the you know what for it, when the Melaleuca stuff is much cheaper and just as good if not better imo. Good luck.

It's a multi-level marketing scam that features products you can easily buy for less money elsewhere (not the exact product but comparable ones).
For example, I buy an off-brand aloe vera gel at Walgreens that works just as well as the Melaleuca one for sunburns, and it is less than half the cost.
So.... if you want to spend a lot of money on things and turn your friends and family into customers, go for it. Personally, I run from people selling this stuff.

Hi Kristin,
Its not MLM or a pyramid. It has been recognized by the BBB (which does not allow MLMs in their organization) for their integrity. The monthly quoto is VERY easy to meet as you are changing stores not buying extra stuff. It works somewhat like a co-op. The quality of the products is great.
The hoo haw about the hormone disruptors (in low grade tea tree oil) was from 3, yes THREE, reported cases...in ONE study. If you google it you will find the same report 15 different times. All three of these boys had bizarre preexisting conditions. More people are allergic to milk, air, flowers, etc. Melaleuca oil is a higher grade of tea tree oil than is sold in the stores and is not caustic.
Let your friend sit down and give you ALL the details and you decide whether you like the concept or not. She's excited because she found something she thinks will benefit you. It's not for everyone but it sure has helped our family out, not only with our health, but with our pocketbook...
God bless,
M.
PS The monthly committment falls somewhere between $50 and $70, not anywhere close to $400....
PSS Is 95 cents too much for a 16 ounce bottle of kitchen cleaner???

Never used the products so I can't say anything bad about that part.
However, I have responded to what seemed like legitimate employment positions and it turned out it was about selling this product.
It all sounds so grand.
All you have to do is find so many friends who find so many friends who have so many other friends to find so many friends.
Not for me.
Like I said, the products might be great, but I will never know because I have products I love that don't involve any of that.
I can go to the health food store for things that I need.
Just my opinion.
No offense to anyone.

My in-laws have been selling it for about 5 years.
As for the products - some of the cleaners work wonders, but they are super concentrated so they last for ever. The Sol-U-Mel is the one we use (still) the most often. I really liked their unscented lotion too. There was nothing really special about anything else (although we haven't bought new products in about 2 years).
As far as signing up with the company to buy it, it is a basic pyramid scheme. If you sign up under them they will get a commission check each month based on your purchases. The more people they have sign up, the more they make. My in-laws gave us a bunch of free stuff and talked about how great it was until we finally caved in and signed up to see under them. They kept saying we would buy more than the needed $35/month to stay active (I think that's how much it was), but that never happened. Every month we bought more and more stuff we didn't need (stocking up) to stay active. So stupid. We stayed for a little over a year because my DH didn't want to hurt their feelings, and during that time wasted SO much money! Like I said, while I appreciated some of the products, overall it just wasn't worth it. I felt like the dish soap left a residue on everything, I stuck with Tide for laundry simply because it's what I have always used, the shampoos and conditioners made my hair feel really heavy, Flinstones vitamins were cheaper than their kids ones, etc.
If you are thinking about trying it, I would ask them to purchase a few products for you first, and then go from there.
You can PM me if you have any questions about any specific products.
Good luck!!

The products are inferior and not worth the money. They claim to be green but any company that uses petroleum products, parabens, and synthetic fragrances while not disclosing the bulk of their ingredients is NOT green.
I used to be a customer. Try it for yourself, if you love it, great, but if you don't love it, don't let the company and it's reps bully you into keeping your membership like they tried to bully me.
Oh, and Melaleuca doesn't call themselves an MLM and they don't distribute products, BUT there is a pyramid involved. If your friend gets you to be a member, she gets paid. If she gets you to be a representative, she gets paid even more, and when you recruit people, both you AND she get paid. I could care less about them being rated by the BBB. Melaleuca denied every problem that we had with their products. It would take an act of congress to have a genuine complaint recognized.
Good luck in your decision!
*EDIT. There is no guarantee that Melaleuca will refund your money. They REFUSED to refund my money, they just sent me more Sol-U-Mel that I did NOT want, to make up for their vast mistakes. That's not a money back guarantee!

the good: the cleaning products work awesome & you get a lot of product for the cost. the acne items like zap works awesome. renew lotion is the only thing that helped my daughters eczema, not even her dermatoligist prescribed meds worked as well. my daughter died her soccer jersey pink, she washed it at her dads house with tide but it was still pink. then she washed it with the melaleuca mixed with sol u mel & it all came out. i have bamboo flooring & the tub & tile works the best out of any cleaners. my DH loved washing his car with it. the prespot stain remover is awesome too.
the bad: you have to order way to much to meet the monthly quota.
i just ran out of the tub & tile & really need some more so if anyone lives in the western suburbs please contact me, lol

My sister got roped into signing up and they had to order a large amount every month to keep the discount and from what I have heard they are expensive and not very good. We only use products from another company (that has an awesome reputation) that offers ALL NATURAL botanically based healthy products and I don't have to order anything to keep my discount but I love the products and the compensation plan I get complements all the time on how young I look.

I love Melaleuca products. The aloe vera juice is VERY good for you. They also have aloe vera gel that is awesome for sunburns. The cleaning products work pretty good too. Those are the only things I used, becuase my grandma would pass them on to me. (She sells it too.)
You won't need to buy enough to meet the membership, unless you have a huge house and a million kids. My grandma has the membership, and everyone in our family just buys our product through her. That way she is meeting her 'quota' and we benefit from her membership. :)

Hi K.,
I use Melaleuca's products. I love them, have been able to improve my health and no more asthma!!! I have have shared my experiences with the rest of my family, and my 2 nephews are now also asthma med and inhaler free! There are some misconceptions about the company as I see below. I actually spend considerably less each month then I did when shopping for lesser quality items at Targot and health food stores. As a preferred customer- I purchase directly from the company, (unlike the MLM, pyramid type companies mentioned below) the prices are better or comprable to grocery store brands, and I agree to do at least a 35 pt order with the company in order to receive a 30-40% discount on products (not exactly a 'measly' discount) To put that in perspective: I order about 200 pts. per month. I don't order because I have to, I order because these are items I use in my home each month and I have always spent money on them! Melaleuca does not have an 'autoship' program. However they do have a back up order program, which is a selection of items preselected BY YOU, that you would like shipped to you in the event that you are unable to place your order due to an emergency. I was very thankful when I had my son, to receive my toothpaste, vitamins, mouthwash, shampoo, soap, protein shakes, laundry detergent, etc. at my door in order to keep my household running smoothly.
Your friend doesn't actually sell the products, Melaleuca does not have distributers. By all means, Try the products for yourself, and you be the judge. The company invites you to do so risk free! Everything is 100% money back gaurantee! Empty bottle! Best decision I ever made for my family! :)
EDIT: I would love to hear you feed back once you HAVE tried it for yourself, or at least taken a look at what your friend wanted you to see. I hear bitterness in the undertones of posts- which confuses me, and other posts- I can tell someone is trying to 'sell' you on a product. I think that your friend cares enough about you to want to share it with you! She may even have samples of products that you can try- right on the spot! Melaleuca uses NO parabens and I am able to view the product ingredients. This is one of the things that drew me to this company. I save money in my budget, I'm not sure where some of the posters are shopping. But if you are shopping at the dollar store, then yes, Melaleucas products would seem expensive- upfront...but then again, how much is your co-pay, your insurance premiums, and your health worth to you? Those are the things I looked at...as a customer!

The good: Users report that it works well.
The bad: Tea Tree oil (Melaleuca oil) has been shown to contain a hormone mimic, and like other such products, repeated exposures can be potentially harmful to growing children. A few extreme cases of little boys growing breasts brought researchers' attention to this hazard. Also, the pungent oil can cause reactions in sensitive people.
You can get very good cleaning properties in less expensive and non-toxic products like baking soda and white vinegar.

I used to sell it but didn't like that part of it. But some of the products that I did try I really liked, but they are alittle pricey though. It got to be too expensive buying every month. For the few things that you are required to buy it was over $60.00 every month. Too rich for my pocket. I can do alot of grocery shopping for that.

I also got it for a while - but at the time I was buying for my daughter and son's houshold. Once they got going on their own it was just too much product for just me and my husband. It was great stuff and I still buy it from friends from time to time. I would try to just get a couple of things and try it to see if you like it. I especially like the Sol-u-mel - the stuff is great and works on everything.

I love Melaleuca products. It has been some years since I was able to afford it. My sister sold it for some time though and I just ordered through her. She couldn't keep up with the orders that are required to buy at the dealer costs.
As I said it has been years but my favorite items were the skin care items. I loved the facial cleanser and base. I wore Mary Kay make up exclusively. I tried the Melaleuca skin care and base with my regular Mary Kay blush, eye shadow, mascara, etc... All day long people kept stopping me and asking what I had done differently. I din't buy any though due to having so much Mary Kay on hand. My sister bought the acne products for her daughter and they were wonderful. I don't even know if they sell the skin care stuff anymore though.
I liked the laundry soap and other cleaners. They seemed to work in a totally different way. If you decide you like the products then just buy them outright from the family members.

my mom signed up for it for awhile but you are required to purchase a certain amount of "points" worth of product each month. It was way too much to keep up with. She ended up with duplicates and it was costing her more than she was supposed to be saving. I also know a woman who has "faithfully" been selling it for over 7 years and she confessed to me that she only makes about $1500 per month on it.

I started using Melaleuca 11 years ago and I love all their products!! You can purchase as much or as little as you want...if you want the best price you become a preferred customer and agree to purchase 35 points of products each month. If not you can pay extra and not have any certain amount you have to buy. With laundry soap, dish soap, cleaners, bath & beauty products it's really easy to purchase every month! The chapsticks are wonderful! I see from some posts that many don't look into the actual company. Tee Tree oil is a major ingredient in many products from Melaleuca.
My grandson has allergies and with the products from Melaleuca his mom doesn't have to worry about whether the soap is going to cause him problems with allergies.
I recommend Melaleuca to many people and would recommend you look into it...if you don't like the products the company will refund your money. I have never had a problem with them at all. Hope this is something you like...you are welcome to email me at ____@____.com.

I have been a Melaleuca customer since 2004. I love love love their products. I knew about the product back in th 80's when a friend of my moms was in it. You can be a customer and not work the business. You are not selling the product, you are selling the concept of becoming a customer. Melaleuca oil is the best. You can put it on anything and it cures it. If put in the mouth, you have to get used to the taste. But its awesome.

I have heard that their customers need to purchase so much a month and must be on auto ship to be a customer. I don't know if that's true but if it is.....you can't tell customers what they need and when. She may just sell you some of her stuff because she will have high requirements as a distributor. MLM is a tough business. I tried them.

I found Melalueca about a year ago. I decided to build my own business. I love what they stand for, the safety of their products, and the opportunities they can help provide. I must point out that we are marketing representatives and we do not sell anything. We do help people by getting them signed up to be customers and make their homes safer. If they are interested, help them start their own businesses.
I see from other posts that there are people who may not truly understand how it works and are a bit confused...I would suggest that you attend a presentation (in person, on-line, or via telephone) and get all the correct information. Ask questions so you can make an informed decision. They have a money-back guarantee so you can try it for yourself.
Talk to your friend and then if you want to speak to others talk to other members of her team or message me. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
I found that I save money on most of the products but some are move expensive than other I bought. The difference really is about getting the toxins out of our home. Building a business is a bonus.

i've heard the products are very good. but you must know that any company set up this way (even if they have wiggled out of the 'pyramid' or 'MLM' label) is indeed a multi-level marketing structure and therefore designed to place the bulk of financial burden on the folks at the bottom of the pyramid, ie the non-salesperson consumer. ANY product sold this way (mary kay, avon, primerica insurance, longaberger baskets etc) is bound to be ridiculously over-priced. and the fact that you have to order a minimum every month just to get the tiny 'member discount'?
i pass.
