Have anyone rode on the Mega Bus? If so, what was the experience like and was the cost really that cheap. Is there a catch?

Thanks in advance

My SIL uses it to visit us. she loves it - it's cheap and she doesn't have to drive. It has plug ins and wifi so she brings her laptop and plays on the internet or watches movies. Sometimes the other passengers are a hoot, but that's half the fun and she has great stories when she gets here.

The catch is it is a bus. If you have never done a long trip by bus that comment may not make sense.

My daughter went to NYC for a semester. There was a 300 dollar difference between flying into Philly and flying into NYC. She was also moving all her stuff there. So she flew in on Southwest since they had no baggage fees with her three checked bags. Now on mega bus you can only take one bag. So she brought one bag, bought her other bag a seat and that bag brought the other bag. I have a clever girl. :) So for ten dollars she went from Philly to NYC.

Yep, my friend just came to visit from San Antonio. Only cost her $2 round trip (if you buy out far enough). She liked it.

Be sure to get the password for the wifi from the info counter before you leave, the bus drivers don't know the code.

Cheap if booked far in advance, but otherwise fares still reasonable (in Northeast, anyway). Buses were clean and ran on schedule. Would recommend.

My best friend takes megabus on the east coast all the time and loves it. Buys tickets well in advance and they are very cheap.

My BFF rode one into Grand Prairie last week from HOU... and it was AWFUL!!
No one helped her load her 2 bags, ENORMOUS car seat and 18mo-old. She had a helluva time getting all that on and off by herself. And the bus was an hour late picking them up in HOU, and then got LOST here in Downtown Dallas (waaaaay far from GPrarie), and the driver pulled into a liquor store parking lot in a very scary part of town, then got OFF the bus to call dispatch and ask for directions. She said that several passengers finally had to navigate the driver to the station. So they were like 3 hours late arriving, all told.
Sure she paid like $6 total, but was scared sh$tless most of the time. Could've flown Southwest for like $75.
So... is it cheap, yes. Would I do it, NEVER by myself, or with a kiddo.
