Meeting People

I'm looking for any advice on how to meet other single moms or parents. I have a 5 yr old boy and I'm new to the Valley Ranch area. It seems impossible to meet people. It would be nice to make some friends and find a trusted babysitter for an occasional night out. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Unfortunately I just moved from Valley Ranch to uptown, but that doesn't mean we couldn't get together. I am not a part of a mom's group, but I have a friend who is; I would be glad to get that info if you would like.

As for an occasional sitter so you can have alone time or a night out, I would love to take care of your son in my home (uptown); or, if you are needing someone to come to your place, I use my very mature and highly dependable ex-student. She's great! I will talk further with you if this is something you are interested in (in either case).

N.,

A group of us from Mamasource are trying to start a working mom's playgroup. We have only met once, but it was at a mall play area and it was very difficult to actually talk and get to know each other. We decided for our second meeting to move it to someone's house. I will be hosting at my house in Carrollton tomorrow, Saturdy the 23rd at 2:00pm. You are more than welcome to join if you like. The address is 1210 Laguna Pl., Carrollton, TX 75006 - you can map it in Yahoo.

Have you visited the website seemommyrun.com? I don't know if you like to walk with other moms but I went on this site and was hooked up with a group in two days. The ladies are super nice and it gets me out of the house and exercising. My group walks only, but some may run or whatever. Good luck.

N., I would suggest finding a good church in your area. Most of the large ones would have young adult classes where you could meet others your age with children who would be trustworthy as babysitters. Hilltop Church in Irving is a good church I have visited. Churches are where I've always found great people to be my best friends.

I hope this helps.

Hi N.,
I just moved to Southlake a year ago from NJ and was very fortunate to meet people in my neighborhood through one neighbor who got me involved in a book club and bunko group. Another way I met people was when I got pregnant and started prenatal yoga. Now that my daughter is almost 5 months, I have continued to stay in touch with the friends that I made in yoga and am meeting other moms at Gymboree. I recommend finding a hobby/playgroup that you and your child can do together to meet other moms & kids!! Best of luck.

Here is a message board with some great advice. They have playdates all the time. I've met quite a few other mommies through it. It's dallasareamoms.com. You sign up and tell a little about yourself, and then they will let you join. I hope this helps!
