I requested refunds for my bottles at www.mcneilproductrecall.com
You may request a high value coupon to use when the product becomes available again or a refund which will be the average cost of the item.
Has anyone heard if there is a process for getting your money back, or if they are giving out coupons for free items when the return to the shelves? Now that I've gotten over my anger of giving my daughter over 1/2 a bottle of Tylenol before it was recalled, I'm now angry that I have almost $20 worth of medicine in my cabinet I can't use, 2 bottles haven't even been opened yet.
Thanks for the quick responses. If Wal-Mart is taking them back, then I'd rather just do that.

What makes me the most upset about this whole thing is that they should have recalled ALL of it several months ago, when the first recall was announced for specific lots. The company has lost my trust, and for now I will be using only the generics.
I tried to find that info on their website, and either they are not offering reimbursement, or they are making that info very hard to find. Perhaps calling them would yield some better results.
Wal-Mart as well as other stores are taking the medicine back no questions asked. Even if it is opened and you have no receipt. They will take it back. I got store credit. Just call the store and ask. I gave my child some too before it was recalled. I am mad as well! Darn pharmacutical companies!
I was wondering the same thing as our daughter has 4 of the involved products.
I'd also looked for information on swapping out the product for an alternate, but there is nothing in the press release as the scope of this recall is monumental.
As someone who has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a long time, I wanted to provide a little information on what happened and why it's so important. McNeil Pharmaceuticals is a consumer division and isn't the same as a company that makes prescription products. But, the FDA regulates all, and it was the FDA who worked with the company to issue the recall. Had these been prescription products, you likely could go back to the pharmacy and exchange the product at no cost. Anytime you get a prescription that has anything at fault, take it back to the pharmacy (they have a record of dispensing it), and it will almost always be exchanged at the cost of the pharmaceutical company.
I believe once we get past our anger and anxiety, we'll have more information to understand exactly what went wrong and how it happened. There will be fault and there will be fines, and McNeil will have to work very hard to rebuild their public image (similar to Toyota).
But, despite the massive size of this recall, the system worked and the agency designed to protect all of us has. If your child has suffered any side effects, there is a phone number for MedWatch on FDA.gov that will take that information.
you just take it to walmart they give u cash back-the price you paid for it-I took 4 bottles back and no questions asked. I would not even waste my time calling the company-do u know how many calls and emails they are getting and almost positive u will not get a response. Hope this helps. L.:)

You can sign up with the company to get either a refund at retail price or a coupon for a brand new one once they are back on the shelves. I know I love the products and have 4 of them (most half used) and want new ones so I opted for the coupons to get new ones.
Great question, I was wondering that myself.. I just found this:
"It had to have occurred to someone at McNeil that people were going to want to know how to get their money back. But rather than come right out and say on the first version of its Web site that it didn’t have a system set up quite yet to handle refunds, it simply said nothing. As a result, many parents probably threw the medicine in the trash, only to have to go digging through the banana peels and coffee grinds later when they discovered they needed information from the product labels in order to apply for refunds or coupons for replacement products.
For the record, to get your refund or coupons, you can call the company at 1-888-222-6036, send an e-mail message to the company through a link on its recall site or request that it call you. That said, according to my colleague Natasha Singer’s article today, people who managed to get through to the company on the phone over the weekend were encountering phone representatives who were only offering coupons.."

I went on their website, http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com/, and clicked on the link to request a refund or high value coupon. I filled out all of the information and requested refunds for all of the bottles I had (4 of them!). I haven't heard anything from them yet, but I'm hoping they give me my money back! I also gave this medication to both of my kids within the week prior to the recall. I have started buying generic and probably won't ever go back to the other anyway (which is why I didn't choose to get a coupon) because it's so much cheaper. My kids don't seem any worse for having taken the meds, but it does upset me that this was even a potential issue. I hope your kiddos are okay and that you are able to get your money back.
If you go to the Tylenol site, follow the links for "important recall news", and there is another link at the bottom "click here for recall information"...you need to look and see if yours was part of the recall. Then go back to the previous page and click "click here to request a refund or high value coupon" and you have to enter in all of the information from the bottles and all of your personal information.
They wont give you money for anything that has already expired. I did this just a couple of days ago for THREE bottles that were almost all the way gone [I had a couple that just had a little bit left in them, plus a fourth bottle that was recalled, but expired]. They say it was voluntary because there were no reports of "adverse medical events"...well, how do you know if your child has liver damage or not? It's not something that is very obvious. How can you make the mistake of having the wrong doses in a childrens medicine??? Particles?? What the h____! It makes me so angry, I will never buy the Tylenol brand again.
Anyway, I haven't gotten anything yet...I'm assuming it could take a while before people get their money back
